We were trying to get to Reno but the pass required chains which we did not have with our rental car. I called a few spots and found the Roman Spa had a vacancy and it was Two for Tuesday so were both had a mud bath for the cost of one. It was our first time and we arrived about 10 minutes early and were shown right in. The girl showed us the changing room and later would be our cool down room. She left and we got in our robes and went to the mud bath room. The mud bath, mineral bath and showers were all in the one private room. She explained how to get in and that we would have about 20 minutes in the mud bath and then after showering another 20 minutes in the mineral bath. She would only come back every 10 minutes with lemon water and cool washcloths. We had a great time and it felt very private. My wife had a massage afterwords and said it was one of the best she's ever had.

My partner and I purchased a Travelzoo special at the Baths at Roman Spa in Calistoga. The special included a mud bath and mineral water bath along with a 25 minute massage for each of us (we purchased an additional 25 minutes to make the massages a full 50 minutes). We arrived early based on their recommendations and were pleasantly welcomed by the staff. After a few moments, we were escorted into our changing room and then into the mud bath/mineral bath room. While I have had a mud bath before, my partner had not so the staff fully explained the process. We both appreciated how clean the room was and that we had a private room to ourselves (I have been to another mud bath spa and you had to share with others and the staff had to be present the whole time). The mud bath was perfect (we had about 20 minutes in it) and then we moved over to the mineral bath for another 20. We both thought this was nice but would have liked to spend more time in the mud bath. After having a chance to cool off in our changing room, we headed off to our massages. While the staff were very nice, both my partner and I felt the massages were to deep. As a result, we both were sore the next day.

Overall the experience was good. The facilities were all great but the waiting room was a bit small. If the massage therapists were lighter on their touch, it would been great!

Thanks for a good visit!

The spa management is totally unprofessional, they've changed their policies midyear to disallow pool day use for massage clients this year and refused to honor their gift certificates. Worst yet, their demeanor and communication is the worst I've experienced, bar none. The spa director, Paige, actually shouted at both my mom and wife for requesting day use of the pools because "management" had changed the policy for mineral pool use with massage despite clear messaging on the certificates otherwise. This attitude was given despite the fact that I had brought 5 family members for a one hour massage ~ $500 of spend.

Later in the week she calls up my wife and yells at her again while cancelling hundreds of dollars in certificates and refused to honor them. She ends the call with a sarcastic "have a nice life" literally hanging up on my wife mid sentence. This is how we got treated despite having bought thousands of dollars in massages and being a client of the hotel for years.

It's a real disservice to the owner and the massage therapists to have such an unprofessional manager of the spa. I will be filing a formal complaint with the owners, and suggest those that have experienced the same awful service to do the same. Completely unprofessional behavior- just sad really.
