We visited the Calistoga Inn the day before New Year's Eve this year. Upon entering, you are immediately warmed by a very cozy, victorian-type of interior. It was raining quite a bit, so the ambiance was very nice.
We first perused the wine list. I was a bit disappointed! The wines that were offered were marked up quite a bit, and I wasn't super-impressed with the choices. I did note a lot of patrons bringing their own wine in. The corkage fee here is $15- typical, but high in my opinion. So this was my first disappointment...
The second disappointment was the lack of accomodation. I asked to order the steak, but instead of mashed potatoes, could I have scalloped potatoes (on the menu also)? I was told by our waitperson that he would ask but could not guarantee anything. Next thing I knew, we were being served, and I ended up with the mashed potatoes. Not a huge disappointment, but I would have appreciated the waitperson coming by to say that he could not substitute.
The food was great. I liked my steak, but loved my husband's chicken better. The grilled winter veggies were awesome. Everything was good (except the wine). I would go here again, perhaps for lunch, to see what type of service I got. AND, I would definitely pay the corkage and bring a great bottle of wine to match the great food. Thumbs up for the chefs... Awesome food, guys and gals!
