After tasting wines all over the world, we were amazed that a wine "tasting" meant a tour of the grounds a visit to their storage facility and an interminable dialogue about their history. Though mildly interesting, we've seen a number of vineyards and wine barrels and were really only interested in tasting their wines. Had they at least implied the visit was to be a lengthy dialogue of their history, we would not have chosen to spend our limited time in Napa at their vineyard. The final straw for us was the reaction of the guide when I told him I could not remain in the aging caves as I was getting asthma from the environment. (For any asthmatic out there, it wasn't good) So we ended up spending an hour of our valuable time and never tasting their wine. Their wines might be great. I guess I'll never know. Their people skills suck.

I visited this winery only because of a strong referral from a friend who went there a few months earlier and said I must go to “Storybook”. Kind of like I’m telling you to go to Storybook. If you are visiting Napa for a few days or first time you should go to some big great vineyards like Mondavi, Korbel, and Kenwood but go to at least one family vineyard like Storybook. The tour will be 2 1/2 hours and you will walk on the side of the mountain and feel the breeze and learn to understand how the weather and selection of grapes and cutting of vines effect the wine. You may see owner checking his grapes. You learn Each years harvest and weather is different and this is the science and art of winemaking. This winery specializes in red Zinfandel and it is awesome . We joined wine club- signed up right in the wine cave during tasting! Look at the photos and don’t miss this tour. I learned so much about wine here. Reservations required. The Storybook label is from the fox and grape from Aesop fables.

What a great visit! We didn't know much about Storybook before our tour there but we fell in love with their story and their wines. Pam was our tour and tasting host, and you could tell she loves her job and all the people who work at Storybook. They have an amazing history and it was a great afternoon learning about the vineyard and of course tasting their wines.

We ended up buying 3 bottles from them and they waived our tasting fee, which was unexpected and very nice. I can't recommend visiting them enough, and can't wait to come back.

Storybook Mountain winery has a lot to answer for - we met, drank a bottle of their fine zinfandel and got married. Twenty five years later we got to visit the winery. We joined four other people for a tour with the delightful Pam who made the visit very special. The story behind this small winery and the two families who work there is fascinating, and the views we enjoyed were spectacular. We loved standing in the redwood grove and hearing about the history and resilience of the magnificent trees that have survived so much. We hope they are still standing proud. It is tragic to know that the devastating fires this week will have changed the landscape. All the people connected to Storybook are in our thoughts and prayers at this terrible tough time. We hope that they all come through OK and that before too long more visitors are able to enjoy this fantastic winery visit and taste the delicious zinfandel, cabernet and viognier that we were lucky enough to sample in the caves. Our stand out memory of our Napa trip. Our thanks to Pam and all the family members we met. Just 40 minutes from vine to press, wow.

Skip the large wineries and take the time to explore & taste these wines. Great, small, winery with very personal attention. They are doing it the right way.
