“A Truly Relaxing Spot”
Reviewed July 5, 2013

We chose the Calistoga Ranch due to its excellent reputation and reviews and we were not disappointed. We had a Forest Suite with a hot tub on the deck. This room had a master bedroom with a huge bathroom and both indoor and outdoor showers. The master bedroom was separated from the living room by a private deck with a hot tub. The living room had an indoor/outdoor fireplace and a powder room and refrigerator. The service was exceptional. The staff were well trained and ready to please. The spa was excellent and the pool was lovely. An added perk was that there were 5 Mercedes available for complimentary guest use (first come first serve). It was great driving a Mercedes convertible through the winding roads of Napa Valley.

This place is really, really nice and worth the drive. We flew into San Fran from Texas and to Calistoga we had 1 and 1/2 hour road trip. Which was not bad because we found some cool "hot spots" to view on our drive in. So we make it into Calistoga Ranch and the warm welcomes, and friendly faces were constant ALL throughout out 4 day stay. Cute lodges tucked away and you really have your very own privacy. The chairs were on deck and quite comfy...hot tub was on deck, prefect combo for Wedding Anniversary. The hotel had chocolates and wine chilled in our room to start the celebration...nice touch

To me this is a resort for pure relaxation, and that's just what we needed and wanted. So in my opinion this would not be a good spot for the kiddos, unless they are super small and don't care what they get to do or not do. My teenagers would have been bored out of their minds. There is a pool, but nothing fancy about it, no water slides or anything like that, perfect relaxation.. again Totally worked for us.

Before our arrival I knew Napa had alot to offer in terms if wine tours and such so we spoke with the concierge, Gregory Haas, who was A-Mazing by the way. We spoke almost 30 days before our arrival because I wanted to ensure he had plenty of time to plan our perfect itinerary and he did just that. All of his recommendations were on point. He knows the area and he listens to what plans and/or site seeing you want to do.

All in all this a great place, cute, cozy place and you won't be disappointed. We were very happy and the rooms were super clean and comfy..which was good because I'm a bit of a germ freak.

The only bad thing I can say but it's no fault of the resort but the location does not offer good phone reception in your lodges. Guess due to the mountains, but service kept dropping constantly which was a bit annoying, but we managed

Room Tip: Get a room with a hot tub on the deck

This was a fantastic stay, at a great hotel. It is a wonderful location, just outside of Calistoga, about 25 miles north of Napa, and in the heart of wine country. The in house restaurant (The Lakehouse) is absolutely great. Wonderful views over a small pond/lake and wild deer strolling about, if you are lucky enough. Staff are really, really helpful, friendly and polite. The concierge (Gregory) did a stunning job for us, before we'd even arrived, with restaurant bookings and itineraries. He even got us into the French Laundry. Rooms are really comfortable and ours had both an inside, and outside, shower. Spacious enough and with full facilities, room was very comfortable, as was the outside sitting area and fire. We were last here 4 years ago and thought it was so good we must return if we could. we were lucky enough to be able to do so and were very glad we did.

Room Tip: You basically have two choices. Either go for a high numbered room at the top of the resort (we wer...

Dear Ian S,

Thank you so much for returning to Calistoga Ranch and for the lovely response. We are thrilled that Gregory was able to secure a reservation at The French Laundry for you, and that your room and experience at The Lakehouse Restaurant were so special. We too love the seclusion of the tucked-away feeling of the rooms at the top of the resort, and enjoy watching the wildlife from the patio of the Lakehouse.

We look forward to welcoming you back again soon!

We had the incredible opportunity to stay at Calistoga Ranch at the advice of a friend. I want to live there!! The layout of the homes is private, relaxing and cozy. The outdoor showers sublime! The staff is very courteous and professional - the spa, one of the very best!

So, I guess in my old age, it is the little things that change a regular experience to extraordinary. My expectation, based upon the reviews was for extraordinary...not so much.

The people were beyond wonderful. Gregory did an amazing job in helping us with trip pre planning.

That said, I had an expectation of a private retreat, romantic evening in the hot tub with a fire...not so much. We were in a forest room. We were in the middle of two roads. no way to have a private anything on the porch and the fire place is well...gas logs on an auto timer.

The inside tub didn't drain properly so i had to use a hand town to keep the drain open to drain...this should have been evident to housekeeping after the first day, but no repair was made. The housekeepers entered the cottage and were looking inside my room at 9am.

Again, back to the small stuff...no soap in the shower so i was wet and had to get out to go get soap...no shampoo or conditioner in the shower. again...the small things.

It was a beautiful place. The food was great but very expensive.

And you have to order a golf cart to get to the spa or the restaurant if you are in one of the lower rooms...make sure you know which room you are in and the location on property.

This was a money is not object week for my 50th. They were very kind to acknowledge my birthday with a cake and other things...

But...in the end, given the options in the area, I hope that they make the very small changes to make ordinary extraordinary.

Room Tip: know the map of the cottages and pick one that will give you privacy. Forest rooms are not backing...

From check in to check out, was absolutely wonderful. Never a hassle, always what I wanted, the rooms are awesome, the spa is spa-tacular, food is wonderful (best blueberry pancakes ever), pool is understated - the entire experience is top shelf.

Will stay here again.

Room Tip: The one bedroom is HUGE.

Dear Bob C,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share the experience you had at Calistoga Ranch. We agree; between the Spa, Chef's delicious Blueberry Pancakes, and perhaps a class of our Sotero Cabernet at our relaxing Pool Bar, you never have to leave the resort to experience the Napa Valley! We look forward to welcoming you back soon!

We spent three days here as part of our honeymoon. The staff is phenomenal, extremely friendly. Gregory the concierge set up our entire trip for us (wine tastings/lunches and dinners) giving us great recommendations that we never may have checked out otherwise. He even grouped wineries and restaurants together that were in optimum range so that we got the most out of our time. Can't say enough about the customer service at this place, very impressed! With that said it is quite expensive and we were a bit turned off with how expensive the restaurant was. Food was good, but being from NYC we have come to be accustomed to excellent food at a reasonable price and this was excellent food at a very high price.
