“Deluxe Luxe”
Reviewed July 26, 2012

We have stayed at many high-end B&Bs; this easily surpasses all the others with its attention to detail and emphasis on high quality at every turn. We stayed in the King Suite, which was so comfortable. But we looked at most of the other rooms, all of which were very nice. We arrived in late afternoon and were welcomed by Brent, the epitome of a gracious host, who poured us several generous glasses of wine while we sat on the expansive wraparound porch and chatted about where we'd been and what we wanted to do the next day. He loves people and is very knowledgeable about wine and the area's wineries. Our curiosity was heightened when we heard guests anticipating what might be served the following morning for breakfast. What a treat!! Absolutely gourmet breakfast with freshly squeezed OJ, French pressed coffee, and several courses of the most delicious food. Eating breakfast on the porch each morning was a treat. Calistoga itself is a delightful small town. And we did not anticipate all the wineries tucked away in the countryside around Calistoga. Wonderful wineries and beautiful scenery. Brent made a number of recommendations that were spot on. Our stay simply could not have been better. We are already making plans to return.

Thank you for your comments. I don't think that our guest understand just how much fun we have meeting, talking and sharing with our guests. This endeavor is a labor of love...and it sounds like you loved the "luxe" experience. We look forward to you visiting in the future. Be well and as always safe travels.

We just stayed at the Luxe Calistoga for the second time, and while we didn't think it was possible, had a better time than our first trip there. We wrote a long review last time, so I cut and pasted that below this so you can see those comments -- because it was that incredible experience all over again, no reason to re-write the same thing!

The best way to describe it is not only will we only stay here out of anywhere in wine country, but for the second consecutive trip, someone staying at another property (cough, cough, Solage) said that after coming to Luxe to visit while we were staying there, they will absolutely stay at Luxe next time.

Go ahead and try to find a better location, better hosts than Chris, Brent & Skip, and a better breakfast than that created by Joshua.

Not a chance. Stop shopping and just book a room.

Here is a detailed description from our first stay, and why there will most definitely be a third:

***
We found the Luxe on this very site, chose it because of the rave reviews. Those reviews didn't even do it justice. Newly renovated and perfectly located, we honestly could not have asked for a better place to stay for a weekend away from the kids (wife and I are middish-30's) in wine country.

LOCATION
Right in lovely and unpretentious Calistoga, walking distance to anything you need. Very short bike/car/taxi ride to many more incredible restaurants and beautiful wineries. (Bike rental place is literally a block away)

ROOMS
Beautiful and well-kept. King suite is their biggest, but we saw 4 of the 5 rooms and they are all fantastic. Comfy beds and robes, TV with tons of channels, fireplace you just switch on, chocolates at night, very nice private bathrooms...

BREAKFAST
Not exaggerating, can't imagine you will find a better one anyplace in town. And it's free. Start with a great pastry, then enjoy a fruit cocktail, then an over-the-top beautiful main course like crab and eggs or duck hash. All fresh and cooked right there. Dietary restrictions? Just tell them, they will take care of you. You won't need a big lunch after these wonderful breakfasts (but they send you off for the day with a bag full of snacks and water anyway!). Oh -- and private tables inside and out if you aren't into the communal dining thing.

WINE AND CHEESE EVENINGS
From 5-7 they pour a local wine (we had The Prisoner and Envy -- both of which so good we bought after) and give you a lovely plate full of cheeses, meats, nuts and more. The food is great, the wine better, and the conversation the best. Pace yourself, or you'll drink too much before you even leave for dinner. Yup, happened. Another night a local guy in the wine business dropped in and gave us a preview of a new sparkling wine he was importing from France. Fantastic.

Breakfast and evenings are done relaxing on a huge and gorgeous porch with wonderfully comfortable furniture. Fantastic heaters and ceiling fans make the porch all weather. Perfect to sit and watch the world go by no matter what the weather is outside.

THE OWNERS

The best part of the place. Chris and Brent were waiting for us when we arrived and never stopped making us feel like the oldest and dearest of friends until we hugged them goodbye. Their service is impeccable, but if you are a people person, you won't find better hosts. They are passionate about their baby The Luxe, but are also passionate about life, and we could have sat with them for days just chatting and drinking and laughing. They know the area wonderfully and will help you with whatever plans you want to make. But anyone can do that. Their warmth and fun is the hidden gem of this place.

Oh -- and ask them to bring out Skip. Skip is the most adorable 13 or 14-year-old puppy you will ever meet. Sit and snuggle with him, take him for a walk, whatever you want, Skip is in. He is fantastic.

OVERALL

If you want a big hotel or a private bungalow, you can find that in wine country too. We chose The Luxe (5 rooms only) based on reviews, and wow did we get lucky. Even if you are not looking to make new friends, stay here for the service, the location, the rooms and the food. But if you love laughing and sharing life experiences and talking about, well, anything, Brent and Chris will make a trip to wine country memorable for much more than the amazing vino in the area. And considering they just opened in the last year, Luxe will only get better as they evolve their offerings. Better book quick, while you still can!

Stayed for 3 nights at the beginning of July. The house is gorgeous. Room is luxurious. iPads in every room. Beautiful furnishings. Lovely big bathrooms, with beautiful Bulgari toiletries. Cheese and wine in the evening on the terrace, and the most amazing b breakfast brunch in the boring. Chris was a great host and Josh made the wonderful breakfast. Great suggestions for dinner and day trips. I can't imagine anywhere else in Calistoga is better than here!

I had great expectations for Luxe Calistoga after reading many of the very positive reviews on tripadvisor. I can happily say that our two night experience at this so charming, friendly, and lovely B&B exceeded them all. Brent was gracious and warm, making us feel at home right away. Our room, the king suite on the first floor, was tremendous, appointed with lovely furnishings, a warm fireplace in the sitting room (yes, the valley was chilly in July!), and a very comfortable bed. Each afternoon, the hosts serve wine and cheese on the wraparound porch. On our first day, we arrived just in time and while we sipped a local wine and snacked on a variety of cheeses and meats, Brent made sure our next day plans were complete, from suggesting and reserving a private wine tasting with one of the local estate vineyards/wineries nearby to helping us schedule a relaxing massage for me and a pedicure for my wife in the late afternoon. His best suggestion, however, was an early morning walk to see a spectacular panorama of the vineyards in the valley near Calistoga. I will leave it at that and let Brent describe the walk for you when you stay. Let's just say, the massage was the perfect antidote for my sore legs suffered from the walk. Oh, did I mention the gourmet breakfast prepared each morning by the talented owners and/or their chef, Josh? I will list the highlights--white linens on the porch tables, fresh squeezed orange juice, coffee from a French press, a different pastry each day, and a sumptuous main breakfast dish. We had never traveled to Napa Valley before this trip, and purposely chose a smaller town (as opposed to Napa or Sonoma) and glad we did. Luxe Calistoga is the perfect B&B and we can't recommend it highly enough. Oh, we can't leave out Skip the B&B's friendly Golden Retriever who hangs out on the porch.

Glad you had a great time...sorry that I did not get to meet you, but it sounds like you were in perfect hands Brent, Joshua and Skip. We try to make sure every guest has a unique and special visit to Napa Valley. So glad you enjoyed the "hike"....it is quiet steep, but as you know the views and experience is something you will always remember. The hike bonus is that it helps burn off all of the calories from breakfast. Safe travels always and we hope to see in the future.

The Luxe in Calistoga is hands down one of the most amazing places I've ever stayed. My best friend rented out all five of the rooms for a long weekend for her wedding in Calistoga. Chris and Brent made us feel as if the B&B was "ours". The rooms are beautiful and meticulous. The wraparound porch was absolutely wonderful and again, Chris and Brent are such wonderful owners/hosts that tend to your every need. Lastly, the gourmet breakfasts are so yummy! I can't begin to describe how good the dishes that were brought out every morning were. I've never eaten that well at a B&B and I've stayed at quite a few. I was sad to leave the place but will definitely visit again. You must visit. You are missing out if you don't!

Room Tip: I stayed in the king room with the private entrance which I loved, but saw all the rooms and you can...

Everyone made us feel like we were party of the family and we were glad that we could provide a "home base" for all of you to get ready for the big event. Special is how we hope everyone views their stay with us....thank you again for your kind words.
