The Chanric Inn
Ranked #10 of 27 Calistoga B&B and Inns
Reviewed September 16, 2013

I don’t think we can add too much more to all of the glowing, positive comments already posted for the Chanric Inn. So why are we writing? To re-affirm to any skeptics out there that Joel and Jim and their staff really do reproducibly deliver an outstanding experience to all of their guests at their charming Inn!

Room/Bed: Both of our rooms (2 & 5) delivered that rare combination of comfort and style. The Carrera marble shower is gorgeous, yes, but more importantly, it functions impeccably. Our supple bed and fresh, soft linens were most inviting after a full day of touring and gourmet dining! We really did not feel at all disturbed by any appreciable noise level from the traffic on Foothill Blvd.. Tips: talk with Joel or Jim for the best rooms if you have any particular preferences or needs. We did for my mother, and they were most kind and sympathetic.

Breakfast: This was a serious three-course affair, and we learned very quickly to look forward to it every morning! I don’t think we can do justice with plain words; one has to experience breakfast at the Chanric Inn to believe it. We had ours al fresco all of our 3 days there, surrounded by the fragrant and beautiful herb garden. In that setting, to be served fresh fruits in grappa, Pineau de Charentes, or other similarly heady and aromatic liqueur, eggs en cocotte with ratatouille or fresh salmon flown in from Seattle’s Pike Market, etc., in addition to the freshly prepared juices/smoothies, warm croissants, and brioche bread, was simply heavenly. After dinner at l’Etoile Chandon, my companion said she would rather stay at the Chanric Inn if only Joel and Jim would offer dinner!

Service: Everyone at the Inn was unfailingly polite and warm. We neglected to contact Joel and Jim earlier for help with booking restaurants & winery tours until 2 weeks before the super-busy Labor Day holiday weekend (Tips: do not make this mistake like we did!). Even with our own particular preferences, they actually managed to snare a dinner reservation for us at a highly sought-after Michelin-starred restaurant as well as a guided tour at a smaller and rapidly rising small winery. Every one of our emails was answered promptly and thoughtfully, with very kind and helpful suggestions. Despite their full house with many guests coming and going, Joel and Jim always found the time to talk with guests, to find out how we were enjoying ourselves and if we needed any further sightseeing or restaurant recommendations.

Extras: And there were many!!! Piping hot coffee & tea outside one’s room before breakfast (we took full advantage of this and sipped on our tea & coffee while catching up on our work or going over our day’s activities in our room prior to breakfast); complimentary minibar, Nespresso offerings, & chocolates in the living room throughout the day; wine, champagne and hors d’oeuvres in the evening; and vintage Charlie Chaplin projected in the living room in the evening! In fact, relaxing in the luminous living room, in the front porch, or in the fragrant garden with the gently lighted waterfall sculpture was every bit as luxuriating! Joel and Jim truly have created a B&B experience that pampers, nourishes (in more ways than one!), rejuvenates, and re-energizes.

Room Tip: Talk with Joel and Jim to identify the best rooms if you have any specific preferences!

What can we say? We couldn't be happier to hear this. From the piping hot coffee to the Carrara marble shower, we certainly aim to please and I am so happy that you left your stay with us feeling relaxed. Yes we give a lot of importance to the details, they make the differences. It has been a pleasure to meet you and your family and talk about your so interesting travel experiences.

Needless to say. we can't wait to see you back here. Both Jim and myself would be absolutely delighted to host you again.

All the best,
Joel, Owner

We stayed at the Chanric Inn recently for 3 nights and I wish it could have been longer! Joel and Jim exceeded all of our expectations. The entire property is gorgeous. The rooms are beautiful and exceptionally clean. It is such a serene, relaxing and comfortable place to stay.
We follow a paleo diet and Jim and Joel went above and beyond to accommodate us. There was almond milk with our morning coffee, salmon and caviar breakfasts with fresh juice, gluten free chocolates at night - the attention to detail was unbelievable. We loved the wine receptions at night which offered high end wines from the region and especially enjoyed the late evening champagne. The pool is fabulous and we were lucky to spend a few hours there one afternoon. Again, we were brought out waters and refreshing beverages - top notch service! We cannot wait to return to the Chanric!! Thank you for such a wonderful experience!!

Thanks for taking the time to write us such a wonderful review. It was truly our pleasure to help make your stay with us as comfortable as possible. We know how difficult it can be at times to adhere to any kinds of dietary restrictions while traveling, and we wanted you to feel at home. As I told you it's really exciting for us to fit our guests dietary restrictions; as you certainly understood food is a passion for us, and so to make you happy. We're thrilled that you had a great visit with us and hope the wedding party was great

We had a great experience staying at the Chanric Inn. I wish I could give them a "10" rating. Joel and Jean Marc have done an amazing job creating an atmosphere of luxury, pleasure, and relaxation. When we arrived to check in, we were greeted by Joel with a smile and a glass of champagne. They are genuinely interested in making sure your experience in Napa is wonderful. Joel made dinner reservations for each of the evenings during our stay at amazing local restaurants. They had a bottle of champagne waiting in our room for us to enjoy to celebrate our anniversary. Now on to the brunch....all I can say is WOW!!! A five star dining experience that you would not expect in a B&B. The menu was eclectic and unique yet smart... the food combinations, spices, and sauces were absolutely flavorful and delicious. The presentation was artistic and each course was an absolute culinary delight. We could not wait to wake up each morning to have breakfast to experience the amazing menu. Our room was very comfortable and the bed was luxurious. The decor of the house is upscale and chic yet very comfortable. The grounds impeccably maintained and are breathtaking as they are scattered with herbs, roses, grape vines, olive trees and a beautiful vegetable garden. The pool and hot tub were refreshing and a great way to enjoy a glass of wine and wind down from a day at the wineries. Each evening we would come back from a great dinner and settle in front of the outdoor fireplace and enjoy a nightcap of champagne. Joel and Jean Marc's attention to detail is amazing, and they truly focus on making each person's visit personal, enjoyable, and relaxing. Thank you for a great time, we look forward to our next trip to Napa and our next stay at the Chanric Inn.

A most stay place!
We had such a fantastic time at the Chanric Inn & Calistoga that we never wanted to leave. The moment we walked in the door, we were greeted by Joel with a glass of Sparkling Wine and a huge smile. Every evening that we returned, again greeted with sparkling wine & a smile. Joel took care of our dinner reservations and got us into the perfect restaurants.
Now, time to talk about the amazing breakfasts that we had each morning. Every morning was a mouth watering French pallet experience that we have never encountered before. JD & Joel were once again perfect. They owned a French restaurant before and it shows: Amazing food, perfect presentation and an explanation of each course. They love what they do and we loved the food. You have never had a breakfast (brunch) like this before!!!

There are pots of coffee left out early in the morning. They also make espresso, cappuccino, etc. They have recently renovated the gardens which are beautiful & you can find cozy enclaves. All the bathrooms were recently renovated too; our bathroom had a heated floor!

At the end of the evening one night, we sat with other guests outside and sipped on more sparkling wine & had nice conversations in a beautiful garden with a fire and plenty of stars.

We almost want to keep the place a secret to keep it all to ourselves. We can't wait to return and have decided that we shall return at least once a year to visit Joel & JD at the Chanric Inn.

My wife and I stayed at the Chanric Inn Jul 28-30 and could not have been happier. Jim and Joel were there to take care of all of our needs. Like others have said we found the breakfast to be incredible and a wonderful way to start out day. Joel was there to talk to and we loved our morning conversations with him.

After a day filled with wine tastings it was nice to come back to the Inn to enjoy another lovely wine with freshly made canapés. Once again Joel was there to keep our wine glasses full and canapés supplied. He recommended and made reservations at 3 incredible restaurants for the nights we were there.

Our room was fantastic and were happy to be downstairs. The bed was very comfortable with all of the linens perfect. We loved looking at all of their French pictures and antiques! Their gardener was there every morning and kept their gardens impeccable.

We could not have been happier with our stay at the Chanric Inn. We have told all of our friends and many are looking at the Inn as their base for their visit to Napa Valley. We look forward to our next trip to see our friends Joel and Jim. We were treated like royalty for 3 days and we loved every second. We can't wait to go back!
