“Absolutely awful”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2011

I have NO idea why others have rated this a good hotel option. Let's start with the fact that when you opened the front door, the plug-in air freshner was beyond potent. When we entered the room, the carpet was worn so bad it was in tread-bare....and more air freshner to boot. At a price of $230 per night, in this day in age, I expect internet service, there was none. I was told that we could use the internet service in the cafe below us, but that closed at 5pm (btw, the next morning when we went to use in the cafe, we could not connect). The couch was old and uncomfortable. The tv was old (not flat screen) and you could not watch it from the bed. The bed...omg, was a mattress with no box springs...literally a piece of plywood sticking out from beneath it (I have pictures to prove it). Furthermore, it was noisy from the restaurant and street below from early evening to late into the night, then again very early (can you say garbage & delivery trucks)?

The above would all be ok, if we were spending $99 per night, but at those prices, I am complaining...loudly.

We are members of the Rutherford Grove wine club, which is connected with Hotel d'Amici. We decided to give it a try over Thanksgiving weekend. What a great find! The room was spacious, well decorated, and very comfortable with a large bathroom and tub, sitting room, and great bed. Each morning we were brought goodies with the little cafe below - we loved the food and coffee, great way to start the day. The location is great, right in the middle of Calistoga. After a day of wine tasting, it is so nice to go back to the room, freshen up and have the ability to walk to all the shops and restaurants in town. This is a great little romantic spot.

We just stayed there on a last minute trip. It was a little tough to find and no set parking. However, the rooms where very nice. The bathroom was large and newly remodled. They have put some thought in the little details. Overall, great place and we would stay there again. Right in the center of Calistoga, walking distance to many great restraunts.

My wife and I stayed here for two nights (Friday and Saturday) in room no. 2 and really enjoyed it. We are relatively local and familiar with the wine country, so we didn't need a lot of hand holding. The lack of a front desk didn't bother us. In a pinch, Joaquin, who lives on-site, could help out, but this hotel is best suited for those who are independent.

The room was spacious and comfortable. We wouldn't describe it as luxurious - it's not a resort. That said, however, we loved the towels and linens, and the soaps and shower products were all from the Napa Soap Company. Daily maid service was flawless, and the continental breakfast was adequate - fresh baked croissant, scone, bagel, a couple pieces of fruit, and some juice and coffee.

Probably our favorite part was the central location. This place is right in the middle of the most popular restaurants in Calistoga - all within one block. Anywhere you are headed in downtown Calistoga is just oustide the door. No need to fire up the car just to shop or dine.

We would defintely stay here again. If you want a nice, comfortable place that feels like your own apartment smack in the middle of Calistoga, from which to explore the upper portion of the Napa Valley, this is your kind of place. If you are new to the Napa Valley, and need some direction and hand-holding, then you should look elsewhere.

Restaurant recommendations: Drinks at the Martini House in St. Helena were top notch; dessert at JoLe in Calistoga (across the street) was fabulous; dinner at Cook St. Helena was very, very good.

My husband and I booked a room for Valentines weekend. The room was very nice, only problem I have is that it listed having a queen size bed and it was more like a double bed. We stayed in room 2 which overlooked the main street. It did get a little noisey but not too bad. The breakfast in the morning was great. We will defenetly stay here again.

I am hesitant to write this review because I don't want my hidden gem to be found! We stayed at the Hotel d'Amici for 3 nights over Thanksgiving and absolutely loved it. It was perfect! It felt like a studio apartment. The place was immaculate. The decor was tasteful. The linens were luxurious. It's an amazing value for Napa valley. I cannot wait to return!

We are preparing for our third stay at the d'Amici. We do think it is our secret little hotel that is slowly becoming more popular, especially since we recommend it to all of our friends going out to Napa Valley. We love the spacious rooms and the location is unbeatable in the cute town of Calistoga. It's nice to arrive and have that half bottle of wine awaiting us in the mini-fridge and awake in the morning to a basket of fresh baked goods and fruit. We stayed in Room 2 on every stay, and the little shared balcony is great - especially since we've traveled with another couple each time and they stay in Room 1 and share the balcony with us.
