“Exclusive feel, spectacular wines”
Reviewed December 7, 2013

Tucked into the Diamond Mountain, this vinyard does a great job with the tasting experience. You can even request a tour, tasting and wine/cheese pairing. The hospitality person Kerry does a great job, knowledgeable and understated. You get the information without the hard sell. The wines sell themselves. This is a great choice for big reds. They also are doing a port which pairs amazingly well with dark chocolate.

“Great Visit”
Reviewed October 29, 2013

Von Strasser Winery was our first stop up Diamond Mountain. The self acclaimed Vino Vixen, Kerry Baxter, was our tasting leader. We first tasted the very light 2010 Gruner Veltliner by the vineyard and then had a tasting of a variety of some very nice single vineyard cabernets in the cave. Their Post (from the cereal name) and Reserve (2010, very young, allow to age a few years) were excellent. We all bought several bottles.

“Simply Outstanding...”
Reviewed October 15, 2013

We just returned from Napa Valley last week, which started with our first tasting at Von Strasser Winery. Two words, "Highly Recommended", in this case we did not save the "best for last" but rather the "best for first". We had reserved a 10:00 a.m. chocolate and wine pariing and were the only group at the winery at that time. We were greeted at the office by John Degregory, and except for a few minutes of chatting with owner Rudy Von Strasser, who stopped by at the office before our tasting, John kept us completely entertained and educated as our tour guide and host. His passion for the Von Strasser family and their business is obvious and his knowledge is extensive. The Von Strasser visit feels like "family", which makes sense in that they are a small family-run business. The wines are tremendously good and the pairing with the artisan chocolates was literally a "delicious" experience. Although I risk adding to their popularity (which spoils many a business) by telling everyone that if you are in Napa, this is one winery not to miss, I'm confident that with the Von Strasser dedication to quality product and customer experience they will continue to provide a truly memorable trip for those who visit them. We will be back.

“In the caves or on the porch a great tasting experience”
Reviewed September 29, 2013

Our tasting this trip was in the cave, but in the past I have tasted on the porch and loved that experience. Given that it was raining the caves was a good choice, lol. My wife and I love the deep flavors that we need to find from the mountain wineries. We love big cabs and Von Strasser does big cab very well. Our experiences have always been very good with friendly staff in a laid back tasting experience. Appointments are required as the tasting experience is very personalized as opposed to some of the big tasting rooms that run you through like you are on a wine tasting factory assembly line. On Diamond Mountain Road off of Highway 29 and just a few minutes south of Calistoga. The tasting experience lasts about 45 minutes to an hour. Even if you haven't made an appointment weeks ahead of time give them a call and chances are they will be able to fit you in sometime during your trip. Enjoy!

“An awesome experience at a awesome winery!”
Reviewed September 13, 2013

I discovered Von Strasser Winery first on my wine map of Napa & Sonoma. I read the outstanding reviews on Trip Advisor & Yelp; & decided to make an appointment for a wine/cheese paring in the cave. What a great decision that was! The winery is located on Diamond Mountain in the Calistoga/ Napa area, a little off the beaten path. We were greeted by both the owner and Kerry, who is such a wonderful hostess, who made the event so special! With a glass of wine in hand, we made our way around until we came to the cave. Once inside, our private tasting of magnificent single vineyard wines were paired with fabulously matched cheeses. Kerry was so engaging with such a pleasurable personality, our visit there was most memorable. We also joined the wine club, and look forward to future tastings and hopefully future visits!
