“we abslolutely love meadowlark!”
Reviewed April 21, 2014

Have stayed here three times with my wife and dog. The property is beautiful and absolutely relaxing. The rooms are huge and luxurious, several with big outdoor decks that are incredible in the spring/summer/fall, and beautifully appointed. Kurt and Richard are great hosts and it's always fun having breakfast with them and exchanging stories. We can't say enough good things about Meadowlark. It's a phenomenal value also, prices are very reasonable for the quality. Very dog friendly. Not a place for kids (but leave them with the grandparents and it's a great escape from them!).

Room Tip: Love #2 upstairs.

You will not forget your trip to Napa if it includes a stay at the Meadowlark Country House. Everything about it is just perfect. Richard and Kurt are welcoming hosts; the rooms are lovely and comfortable and there are even horses and chickens to visit. Room 2 is great for sharing with a child.

I stayed here with a friend for one night as everything in Calistoga looked a bit average and as this was gay owned I thought it would be well above average.

we were not disappointed. Our room, Suite 5, was lovely and homely with huge 4 poster bed and separate living room with sofa bed. The owners Richard & Kurt were charming and very welcoming. We were the only guests that night however notice that there were 4 places set for breakfast. To our surprise the owners joined us for breakfast which I thought was amazing and entertained us for hours. Very good company and Kurt is a complete blether. I would have said that Meadowlark is above average for a B&B however the owners made a huge effort to ensure we felt welcome and for that I gave this a 5 star review.

Spent one night here with a friend whilst visiting Napa Valley and so glad we booked this place. The room (suite) was very tastefully decorated with many small personal touches by the owners. Richard and Kurt could not have made us feel more welcome and joined us for an amazing breakfast where we chatted for a couple of hours. I will definitely be back in the summer for a long weekend to take better advantage of the facilities which looked amazing.

My husband and I just spent the weekend at the Meadowlark and it was such a beautiful and relaxing property! Richard and Kurt (owners) were so kind to us and we loved getting to know them at our two gourmet breakfasts together. We had room 4 upstairs... Perfect balcony & view. We will be back!!!

Meadowlark Country House, is as close to perfection as anyplace I have stayed, anywhere in the world. Richard and Kurt have created a little piece of heaven, tucked into a heavily wooded canyon hillside that is only a short distance off highway 29 and minutes to downtown Calistoga. This beautiful property is accessed via a covered bridge over a bubbling creek, passing the pool complex to the series of residences that make up Meadowlark. The main house, with its wrap around deck, is lovingly decorated with sophistication and charm that provides five of the ten suites located on the property. Suites 4 upstairs and 5 located downstairs, both have gas fireplaces that make the cool Napa Valley nights exceedingly pleasant.

Views from all over the property and many of the rooms are stunning; the pool complex overlooks views both out toward the mountains and up canyon. The huge pool, large Jacuzzi and dry sauna are very private and peaceful allowing even first timers to the clothing optional bathing experience a sense of comfort and assurance.

Each morning you get to experience not only a wonderful breakfast and pleasantly fun guest, the lemon infused Eggs Benedict is amazing, but the lively conversation of your host Richard and Kurt. Richard whose kindness is only matched by his refined intelligence works so hard to make your stay a special experience, and Kurt the charming and dynamic German Renaissance man of the world whose stories will enwrap and entertain you long after you should have left the breakfast table to get a start on wine tasting, are an integral part of what makes this a world class experience, one so rare outside of Europe.

Aloha,
Matt and Jennifer

Room Tip: 4 and 5 have gas fireplaces, the mt. View suite has stunning views.

We've just come back from a lovely stay at Meadowlark. Lovely? It was AWESOME! The grounds were beautiful. The house was big and beautiful yet so comfy and cozy. Our room upstairs was exceptionally well decorated, squeaky clean and stocked with amazing books to enjoy. Not just 1,000 page sleepers but giant, heavy, beautiful books on The Louvre, Horses of the World, and Africa, (just to name a few). One night we sat downstairs by the fire and looked through some of them while we enjoyed our anniversary cake. For breakfast we dined with Richard and Kurt (our gracious hosts), and two other guests, (aloha!). The food was delicious including herbs from their garden and farm fresh eggs from their chickens. As I think back at all of the details, I can't imagine a better place to have stayed. People, friends and new acquaintances are really important to me. The more that my husband and I travel, and we do LOTS of mini as well as big adventures, the more interested I am in new friendships and learning about new things. One breakfast with Kurt and Richard left us with such a wonderful feeling of "being in the right place at the right time".

If you want to stay in a positive and healthy environment with two wonderful hosts, at an amazing property, literally minutes from town, you must stay here.

We've just gotten back home and are already talking about visiting again in August when the grape vines throughout Calistoga will be loaded with beautiful grapes. Oh, and the wine tasting!! Fantastic. 400 vineyards all within a days' reach.

Richard and Kurt... thank you so much. You two are really a joy to be around.

Jodi and Eric
