“Stole my credit card number & not great anyway”
Reviewed January 18, 2013

American Express called to let me know that someone tried to make several online purchases at best buy the night after we had been there. It is the only place I gave MY credit card number. I gave the number to reserve my appointment but didn't use it to run. So whoever wrote the number down or someone else who works there used it. I'm sure they thought we couldn't trace it back to them.

As far as a spa it is like a cheap hotel and I question its sanitation as it doesn't look clean and I don't mean the mud but the building, floors, etc. The mud smells awful but that is probably inherent so not a legitimate complaint? However the face "mask" was an already used container of stuff that the attendant took a stick out of (also used) and lightly slapped on each cheek. After the mud bath, the male assistant cleaned up while we were in the shower which had only curtains that do not fasten. Not very private or relaxing. None of the showers are nice- no real shower heads. The mineral bath is in a small cement block without jets. Not sure what the blanket thing is about. Just random blankets not warm or anything. Massage was OK. We still tipped well though ($20) for each person for a total of $60 on $200 that included mud bath and 1/2 hour only massage. I say that because I don't know a reason other than being a thief that would make someone at a business steal a cc number. Not luxurious by any means. If you have ever gone to a spa - I can't imagine you would be happy with this one.

We had a lovely night at Golden Haven to celebrate my wife's birthday. The location is great - off the "strip" so you feel like you can get away from the action and rest. the rooms are very sweet and plenty for an overnight. The cost is very reasonable since the experience is so genuine and relaxing.

The mud bath experience was WONDERFUL! It was just the right length of time moving through the various stages - mud, tub, towel wrap, etc and our attendant Kimberly was great! She had such good energy and made us feel at home and relaxed - not pretentious or elitist in anyway!
We felt very welcome and comfortable - it was such a treat!

Based on the price, this hotel didn't meet our expectations. While the hotel can't change the smell of the water, they could enhance the amenities, linen, soft goods. The TV has poor reception, furniture is outdated, and bed is lumpy. The spa treatment was a waste of time and money.

Room Tip: If you must stay, pay for the upgraded room at least.

We got an extremely good deal, superior room and mud treatment midweek special. The room was like a mini suite, very spacious, king bed in main room, queen bed in second room, bathroom, dressing area, microwave, fridge. All hot water is mineral water with slightly suflury smell. No phones in room for ultimate relaxation, designated parking spot right in front of room for convenience. Wifi available and included (although a little slow, but who comes here to work?). No breakfast, however checkout at noon, so use the time for soaking in their mineral pool, or either of two hot tubs (99 + 104F).
Kimberley gave us the mud bath treatment and she was really good. She explained every step, left us in the hot mud for 12 minutes, prepared the personal mineral soak for 10 minutes, and tucked us in for a relaxing 25 minutes of rest laying down before we left. She always knocked when returning, and generally made us feel thoroughly comfortable with the whole process, Mud bath are done without suits, the swimming pool and hot tubs are suited only. There is a shower with shampoo next to the pool. Plus: this facility uses recycled bath tissue.
Yes, would definitely recommend this place and come back here.
Tip: when doing a mud bath, bring a camera/phone along to snap a picture of your partner in the mud

Room Tip: Phone them directly to ask for their best offer. Whole nieghborhood is very quiet, so all rooms shou...

Went there for the couple mud bath experience. The peat moss bath had a distinct, unique smell (not in the pleasant way) which took a few minutes to get used to. After 10min in the mud then you showered off the mud, and then get into the hot spring water tub just like an onsen in Japan. Then you go into a relaxation room for the final 15 minutes with hot towels wrapped on the body. Overall pretty relaxing hour.

Room Tip: Ask the wait staff to take a photo in the mud bath with your own camera

Golden Haven is a few blocks away from downtown Calistoga. It's a converted motel with recently updated rooms. Our large room had a king bed, a separate room with a queen bed, plus large dressing area. There was a small fridge, sink and microwave. Clean, OK bed, quiet.

The spa services are great. Our first mud bath -- very relaxing! -- which included time in a private hot springs tub followed by a blanket wrap.

Calistoga is a nice town with plenty of shopping and wine tasting. Many, many wineries within 5-20 minutes; many of them offer discounts or free tastings to Golden Haven guests.

Hotspring in your hotel room. King size bed just steps away from your own private tub. Go to web site for best deals. Good massage available too but a little over priced as are most things in Calistoga. There is good food available down the street. A cool little store called "the man store" has lots of cool stuff. Not really just for men but does excite the man in us men.

Room Tip: Jacuzzi rooms are the rooms with own hot spring tub in your room
