Owner description: Perched 300 feet above the town of Calistoga, Sterling Vineyards offers panoramic views of Napa Valley. A unique aerial tram carries visitors up to the hilltop winery, whose iconic architecture was modeled after that of the Greek island of Mykonos, where Sterling founder Peter Newton once lived. The brilliant white stucco stands out dramatically against the rugged Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges that flank each side of Napa Valley. Through walkways and balconies, guests take a self-guided tour of Sterling Vineyards’ winemaking facilities. Make your visit to Napa Valley a memorable one with a seated Silver or Platinum Experience featuring exceptional small production reserve wines and food pairings. The extraordinary Mediterranean-style architecture, unique aerial tramway, stunning views, and exceptional tasting experiences make Sterling Vineyards a top destination in Napa Valley.

We needed a winery that would be nice with kids... This was it.

The tram is super fun our kids loved the ride and the views even though it was a rainy day out.

We were greeted off the tram with a nice glass of wine ( you even get to keep the souvenir glasses). Nice pours and tastings as you view art and go out on the veranda.

The wine tasting room is a nice place to sit and relax. They served some amazing sparking grape juice for our kids. The brought bread sticks for them too.

Grab a cheese platter ($25) to bring out the wine flavors.

Also, look for the $5 off coupon on line.

Cheers!

Although I had a fantastic time, the cost for this tour was rather high. Therefore, my consumer surplus wasn't extreme. Overall, there was a fun tram, decent wine, incredible views, and friendly staff. The weather was piss poor, an I expected a fire place or heat lamp for the price we paid. Perhaps they could fix that.

Also, the meal at the top should have been included, but was not.

My wife and I stopped here during our first trip to Napa and Sonoma Valley. First off, we are by no means wine experts. We enjoy wine, we enjoy travel and we feel that both should be enjoyed as a personal experience. That all said, there is much to enjoy at this winery stop. The ride to the top on the gondola lift is a nice way to start. The self guided tour is informative and a good length, not too long or short. The wine tasting along the way makes the tour even better, and you can keep the glass at the end. Overall, this is a stop you should make. Especially if this is your first time in Napa.

OK so this was very disney-esque but still, it was a must do to take the tram to the top of the winery. The view was amazing although I was completely terrified the entire time, as it reawakened my fear of heights I had forgotten about until then. The tram ride includes several tastings. Wines are decent and very reasonably priced. If you are tired of spending hundreds of dollars a bottle at Napa restaurants, buy a few bottles here, bring them to dinner and pay the modest corkage fee. You'll be ahead of the game despite the hefty price for the tram ride.

We wanted an easy-to-get-to vineyard and picked this one because it had a gondola ride up to the facilities. Nice self-guided tour of an old family-owned property. Just wished they served light snacks with the seated wine tasting (it was an additional charge on top of an already pricey entrance fee.)
