Owner description: Perched 300 feet above the town of Calistoga, Sterling Vineyards offers panoramic views of Napa Valley. An aerial tram carries visitors up the hill to the winery, whose architecture was modeled after that of the Greek island of Mykonos, where Sterling founder Peter Newton once lived. The brilliant white stucco stands out dramatically against the rugged Mayacamas and Vaca mountain ranges that flank each side of Napa Valley. Mount Saint Helena makes a lovely distant backdrop. The winery’s towers house eight bells from London’s Church of St. Dunstan’s-in-the-East, originally founded in the 10th century. The church was destroyed by fire in 1666, rebuilt, then destroyed again during the bombing of WWII. Each time, new bells were recast from the old metal to give them superior tonal quality. The rich tolling of these ancient bells sounds down through the valley on the quarter hour. Through walkways and balconies, guests take a self-guided tour of Sterling Vineyards’ winemaking facilities. Beautiful outdoor terraces and elegant tasting rooms provide the perfect environment to enjoy exceptional wines while taking in the view. The extraordinary Mediterranean-style architecture, unique aerial tramway, stunning location, historic bells, and attention to visitors make Sterling Vineyards a top destination in Napa Valley.

I was stressing the entire ride up on the tram since I am afraid of heights. Once at the winery, there is an outdoor roof deck with absolutely GORGEOUS views of the vineyards, mountains & nearby wineries below. BEAUTIFUL does not begin to describe it. The tour is self guided & I honestly couldn't be bothered, so can't comment on it. The wine offered on the tour is so-so, at best. However, I had a private tasting in the tasting room and that wine was EXCELLENT! Our host was a really cool guy and even had someone drive me down so I wouldn't have to take the tram back down. All in all, a great experience. Glad I went & so will you :)

Truly beautiful views of the Napa Valley. I went with two friends and told them about the tram ride. Always get a coupon for a $5 discount on what would cost you $25 ordinarily. Now you have the ride up and down the hill, a tasting of 5 wines and could spend a day should you please. The wines are ordinaire and have no ratings, so take the less expensive trip for the aesthetic qualities and beauty of the facility as well as the Napa Valley itself.

After a very pleasant ride through the Napa area we took this winery tour. The winery has a beautiful location and views across many vineyards. There was plenty of parking and you take a cable tram from the parking area to the winery for the tour. The tour is self guided so you can do it at a leisurely pace, spending time enjoying the panoramic view patios. The price of the tour includes the tasting of five different wines, two as you tour and three at the end of the tour in Sterling's tasting room and patio, and you get a wine glass to take home. It is more pricey than other wine tasting places but you do get some extras. There is a $5 discount coupon on the Sterling website.

Those that have been to the Napa Valley know it has many views to take in while you are here.

Sterling Vineyards offers a Self Guided Tour with an Aerial Tram Ride, that offers a truly unique view of the valley.

The wine, as with any wine, is subject to you taste.

Sterling makes one of my favorite wines, so I was very excited to visit this winery. We visited on a Monday right when they opened at 10:30, so we had a very leisurely tour. We had picked up $5 coupons at the Napa Valley Visitor's Center, so we paid $20 each for general admission. I don't have much to add to what others have said. We enjoyed the tram ride, self-paced tour, and wines - apparently the last one we sampled was one they served at the Oscars this year. It was lovely to sit outside on the patio in the sun. The staff were very friendly. I would recommend this tour when in Calistoga.
