“A bigger splash ... for Lucky Pigs! - no I haven't lost the plot ...”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

... as I sat enjoying the sunshine waiting for the signature dish of the restaurant to arrive for lunch there was a kind of dejá vue sensation about being here. Solbar is the restaurant of the Solage Spa Resort. I KNEW I hadn't been here before ... we also have outdoor furniture made by Gloster, but no that wasn't the link - oh nagging sensation - what is it about the place? The patio for lunch is side by side with the resort pool ... and then I realised - it was like I had inserted myself in the middle ground of a Hockney painting from the California pool series - like a less pink tone bigger splash.
How very appropriate, it seemed then, that the dish which everyone said " oh you have to have " ...was called Lucky Pig. A slow cooked pork dish to be shared by two in the lovely environs. Simply heavenly lunch. Try keeping me away the next time California is calling.

“Simply wonderful!”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

One of the best meals I've ever experienced. Four of us had various dishes ranging from pork belly and lamb to Mary's chicken and spanakopita - all were superb. Top that off with excellent service and a beautiful evening for dining al fresco - what else could you want?

“Breakfast was great”

You have to get the Sol-pe for breakfast. It was fantastic. Service was good and you can sit outside.

“Good and creative food”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

Really enjoyed the food at Solage. The flavours were great, and objectively, one has the admire the creativity and talent of the chef.

I LOVED the textures in the dishes, which a lot of restaurants tend to ignore. For example, I had the confit of lamb shoulder, which was seared and very crispy on the outside, and cooked to perfection on the inside. The green garlic mousseline was light and airy. It tasted a bit like garlic mashed potatoes, but I thought this was a lighter, more creative method of preparation.

The chilled dungeness crab appetizer was also quite good!

“A great restaurant”
Reviewed April 9, 2013

We used Trip Advisor reviews to select SolBar for our visit in January. The food was excellent, and the service was good as well as friendly. Prices are high, consistent with the quality. On a second visit in March, the crowd was much younger and louder. Still, the food was superb. If you are visiting or staying in Napa Valley, you will enjoy the food here.
