This small museum is a tribute to the history of Calistoga and the surrounding area. It starts with a brief description of Mr. Sharpsteen and his career with Disney, and the display includes an Oscar that he won for a short subject. As you tour this small museum you can tell that this was built for no other reason than a love for the history of the local area. The diorama that he built is very nice. A cooking pot used by the Donner party is on display. There are other artifacts from the local area. A small gift shop is appropriate for the museum. There is no cost but donations are requested. This museum is very suitable for elementary school children and for anyone else interested in the local history.

This museum has a beautiful diorama depicting life in the 1800's. Sharpsteen worked for Disney in the early days.

We learned of this place on Mysteries at the Museum and were so happy we did. The Donner Party cooking pot that was featured on television is the least of the wonders for us here. As other reviews mention, the staff is friendly and knowledgable. Our excitement was matched by the docent as she related stories of local color, responded to our inquiries, and then left us to our own devices. Mr. Sharpsteen worked closely with Walt Disney as an animator and so there are glorious illustrations backing the charming, highly detailed dioramas that grace this little treasure of a museum. There is a lot of history gathered into scenarios depicting the early days of Calistoga as a health resort borne of the gold rush boon. Walk back in time through the displays into a fully furnished guest house from the Victorian era. Don't miss this little gem right in the heart of Calistoga.

My husband and I visited the Sharpsteen Museum and were greeted with a big smile from a woman who had a clear passion and a vast amount of interesting knowledge about Calistoga and the museum's founders . We felt welcomed as we entered and she made our visit pleasant and informative . Some museum's are stuffy but not this one. Worth a visit. Check out the adorable miniature dolls in the gift shop-so cute and very affordable!

Tastefully decorated little museum with friendly staff. Nice quirky exhibits with great narratives about the history of Calistoga. The main Sharpsteen guy worked for Disney before retiring in Calistoga where he left his mark. Souvenir counter sells the cutest tiny dolls for an incredibly affordable price. Check them out! We ended up buying 5 of them!
