“One of the Best”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2013 via mobile

An acquaintance from home recommended trying JoLe on our recent visit to Calistoga. Are we ever glad that we took the advice!

Our server, Rebecca, was outstanding. She greeted us and explained the menu options. There are several tasting menus and each can be ordered with a wine pairing. She also explained that the serving sizes from the regular menu were moderate and that the chef recommended two plates per person. We decided to go with the latter choice and were more than happy to get two plates each.

I started with the grilled octopus and it was cooked to perfection, tender and not chewy. My wife had the duck liver mousse which we both agreed was the creamiest, most delicious that we had ever had.

I had the veal sweetbreads which is a dish I enjoy but do not often see on the menu. Again, they were perfect. My wife had never tasted sweetbreads before, but after sharing my dish, she is now a fan. She ordered the venison and it was cooked to a perfect medium rare. It was as delicious and tender as the best filet mignon.

The dessert menu offered many tempting choices, but we opted to go light and had the home made sorbet which was also quite good.

JoLe is a farm to table restaurant and the freshness of the ingredients was apparent in every dish that we tried. I am not sure when we will visit Calistoga again but if we do, I know where our first dinner reservation will be.

“As good as it gets”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 6, 2013

Really good restaurant! Food is "farm to table" -- all fresh and delicious. I tries the tasting menu paired with wines, and it was amazing. Highly recommended! But remember you get what you pay for! For two people, we paid $300 total, and we didn't eat or drink much.

“Beyond Urban Cool”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 26, 2013

When you are catering to the highest of high ends from the San Francisco weekend wanna-be Hampton going crowd, then you should probably figure out how to hire a hostess who doesn't forget about seating patrons for over 30 minutes! Other than that little snafu, we had an excellent fine dining experience. Our waiter was astute and very knowledgeable about the intricate details of the various dishes and he gave us tremendous recommendations. We were thoroughly pleased with the presentation once we actually got seated :). It's definitely on "the" list so make sure to get your reservations way in advance or good luck getting in.

“A good choice in historic Calistoga”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 23, 2013

Food and service was very good in this small and historic town of Calistoga. The sea bass and lobster bisque were good choices. The pork shoulder was a bit more chewy than I would have preferred. The coconut cream pie was excellent. Probably the best dining choice in Calistoga.

“Relazing atmosphere and very, very good!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2013

We weren't sure what to expect at Jolie but our table of six left very happy and fully satisfied with our meal, friendly service and the great value we received. The six course tasting menu we all enjoyed was the perfect choice in that we could all pick and chose exactly what we wanted. We were very pleased that we took the wine pairing option, each wine selected was fully explained and perfectly complemented the food. Great technique, friendly service, fantastic wines! Same time next year we'll return for sure.
