Owner description: A number of huge redwoods in this forest point away from Mount St. Helena, which once erupted violently.

We visited the park in March and you can walk the entire loop in 20 min. It is not a strenuous walk at all and costs $10 dollars per adult. The petrified redwoods are very interesting and the forest is tucked away near Calistoga. There is a small gift shop where the clerks are very helpful and kind. This is not a large forest so, prepare yourself to just enjoy the simple atmosphere of nature. Great restaurants nearby in downtown Calistoga.

While not on the scope of the National Park in Arizona, this little stop on the side of the road is interesting, the loop walk is short, shaded and there are some impressive formations. In several cases, the management has conveniently erected shaded platforms so that you can get above the mammoth depth of the trees to take in the entire length.

The gift shop carries petrified wood from all over as well as rocks of all kinds. Yea, the pricing may be a bit off but hey, you're on vacation and there is value in and easy, breezy walk in the woods.

This petrified forest is listed in a book of the world's 31 most interesting petrified forests. Created from a volcanic eruption 3.4 million years ago, these redwood trees have been preserved for posterity. I had never seen anything like it.

It was actually $20.00 my wife was with me. If you have nothing else to do with $10 then go and see it, but for the adventure I could have had a better time walking in one of the beatiful parks in the area. I felt stupid for being sucked in!

If you happen to be in the area or looking for visiting tier-2 locations in the bay area then this is an ok place to visit. Entrance fee is slightly on the higher side. Look for the coupon in their website. There is a gift shop also.
