This is a wonderful, wild and impressive golf course. A little rough around the edges, but that is part of what the course is all about. Challenging but fair - along with the Old Course at Machrihanish this is an inspiring golf destination. Get thee to Kintyre.

Played here in amazing weather 7th of May. The course was in good condition the greens are hilly but fair. Be prepared to spend five hours to play as there are long walks In between tees. A lot of the holes are blind tee shots but hit over the markers and you will be fine. Finally the setting is amazing with some of h best views I have ever or will see on a golf course anywhere in the World. Well worth a visit but it is too expensive per round unless you can get a deal.

Machrihanish Dunes has developed into an excellent test of golf in a magnificent location.
It is a totally natural links course with many blind drives and approach shots into undulating greens.
Quite a bit of extra walking between greens and tees but you can stop for a rest to admire the stunning views of Ireland , Islay, Jura and Gigha.
Well worth the trip down the very scenic Kintyre Peninsula, especially when combined with play on the original Machrihanish Course.

I've now played nearly every top 100 links course in Scotland. Alongside the obvious like Turnberry, Royal Troon and Muirfield I've enjoyed more unusual courses like Carnoustie, Royal Dornoch and Cruden Bay. However, the experience at the two courses at Machrihanish is utterly unique and to my surprise for pure enjoyment has topped them all. The older Machrihanish course has 16 top drawer links holes and was played in excellent condition in early April despite a year of challenging weather conditions.
The newer Dunes course is simply amazing! Although the greens had been dressed for the coming season nothing prepared us to appreciate the closest thing to pure links golf - I'll be happy if it remains golf's best kept secret - the owners won't! Hotel, pub and golf house staff were excellent and couldn't have been more accommodating and friendly. The pub literally feels like a pub and not a golf club house. We're now carefully compiling the guest list for an eight player excursion in the autumn that is sure to become an annual pilgrimage.
So if you have an obsession about golf traditions, and the idea of imperfect lies where you need to take account of the side lie, the uphill lie, the wind, the incredible natural bunkers and the crisp packet green appeals to you, then this is the place for you. The journey, even by car is worth every single mile!
