“Relaxing on the bay overlooking San Francisco Intl Airport”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2010

We were invited to attend an affair at this hotel so me decided to stay there. To our surprise the hotel is situated on the bay over looking the airport. There is a beautiful nature walkway that travels for miles which allows for quiet time and relaxation. Watching those jumbos taking off and landing also is quite spectacular. The hotel itself is nice nothing above 3 1/2 stars. The eatery on the property is quite expensive, they have only one. There is a Starbucks located in the lobby which allows for a inexpensive cup of coffee. The lobby is quite grand overlooking the bay and airport, and has free WiFi. The rooms are Marriott rooms clean and comfortable. The airport shuttle was on time both from the airport and back again. The staff is professional. Located 30min from San Francisco Fishermans Wharf this hotel is a good airport hotel.

My flight was canceled so they suggested the Marriott. I have had good luck with Marriotts in the past, and I was not disappointed. The shuttle service was punctual and convenient, even in the middle of the night. The breakfast was simple, but wholesome, and the staff were so accomodating, especially since the airline still had my luggage. My bed was VERY comfortable- more so than other Marriotts I have stayed at, and the view of the airport was nice. Definitely worth the money, and no hassle to and from the airport. If I ever stay there again I will probably take advantage of the nice walking paths along the bay.

My wife had an early Saturday flight out of SFO, and we booked a room for Friday night at the SFO Marriott to avoid an early morning drive. Our plan enabled her to take the free shuttle to the airport, while I luxuriated in the room. We were satisfied, even pleased with our experience at the Marriott, but we have another nearby favorite that beats the Marriott in my opinion. (See my review of the Bay Landing Hotel.) Because we booked our stay through Priceline, we got a great deal, even though the Marriott charges $18/day for parking.
What we liked about the Marriott was the staff. Pulling up to the entrance flushed out a flock of eagerly helpful attendants. Check-in was quick and friendly. Had we been traveling as usual (carry-on luggage only), we would have gone to our room on our own, But we had a load of odd items for a project, so the bellman was needed. He was great with our cumbersome load, and eager and cheerful about it. He seemed surprised to receive my tip. Every staff person we encountered, no matter who, when, or where, offered a friendly greeting—it must be part of the Marriott training.
Two stories about the hotel staff: First, we discovered upon arrival that a sorority had swarmed the hotel for a convention. They were noisy in the hallways until about 10:30 pm, at which time I heard the hotel staff come through and herd them all into their rooms, where they remained silent for the rest of the night. Secondly, the next morning, someone in the elevator accidentally bumped the emergency call button. A voice promptly asked us if we needed help. It seems that the training goes beyond just friendliness; the hotel staff is really on their game. By the way, elevators were always very fast and efficient, even when crowds of coeds taxed their limit.
The atrium-style hotel lobby is very attractive, with large windows looking out at the bay. Décor is contemporary and stylish, and even playful and cheerful, but without crossing over into gaudiness. The restaurant off the lobby offered a breakfast buffet for $18 for the full meal, and (I think) $14 for more basic. A Starbucks is also available in the lobby. (We had brought our own breakfast food, and the room had a coffeemaker, so we didn’t try the restaurant.) The lobby also had computer kiosks for express checkout, and for confirming flights. A screen even showed real-time airline arrival information—a nice touch.
In contrast to the colorful lobby and hallways, the room was tasteful, but rather bland. The best way to describe the room colors is “neutral.” Furniture still looks contemporary, but within a year or so (I predict) will begin to look dated. Artwork is photos of retro airplanes and the Golden Gate Bridge. The hippest fixture was the lamps, which feature clear glass pedestals that seem timeless in style. We liked the flat-screen TV, curved shower rod in the bathroom, and coffeemaker (with coffee and tea) in the room. Bath amenities are “Bath and Body Works,” and smell very good. (How did they know that ginger is my favorite?) Everything was perfectly clean and in good working order. Soundproofing in the building must be pretty good, since we were across from an ice machine (a notoriously noisy device), but could not hear it at all in our room. Nor did we hear any airport or freeway noise.
There’s an array of electronic docking devices in the room, and a bag of cables hanging in the closet—very helpful to techies I’m sure. We did not choose to use the for-a-fee internet hookup, so we cannot comment on its speed or quality.
Other features in the room include iron and board, clock-radio, desk, and an easy chair with footrest. Our bed was very comfortable, with smooth sheets, pillow-top mattress, adequate back support, and an array of pillows from which to choose. One helpful room enhancement would be a small refrigerator. There’s even a place for one in the armoire, with an electrical outlet available.
I must comment on our room’s view, or rather lack thereof. We looked out at a rooftop, and could see little else. The issue was of little concern to us, since staring at the view was not the purpose of our trip, and basic rooms are to be expected when using Priceline.
Imagine our giggles when we discovered that what skyline we could see was blessed with a beautiful full moon. Priceless!
The fitness center is very good, with many treadmills and stationery bikes, a few machines, freeweights, and enough space to use it all. I almost didn't notice a second room with more bikes. There are small locker rooms with a shower available in each. Through the fitness center is the pool and hot tub, which looked very nice and clean, but I didn't try it.
To sum up, the Marriott beats the nearby Clarion, but is in turn beat by the Bay Landing. And all things considered (parking costs at Marriott and Clarion, free breakfasts at Clarion and Bay Landing), the three probably end up being close to comparable in cost. We were satisfied, even pleased by the Marriott, but not wowed.

I have to say up front that I would never have chosen to stay here. However we were affected by the Volcanic Dust travel chaos in April and British Airways put us up here after our flight was turned back to San Francisco. We were given two rooms with a connecting door and vouchers for all our food for 3 nights which was later extended to 5 nights. BA cannot be faulted for their service and care, but this hotel was awful.
The hotel was clean and very close the airport and the rooms comfortable and clean. The beds were wonderfully comfortable but that is where the good points ended.
Check in was chaotic though to be fair, a lot of people all arrived at the same time. The staff however were surly and not very helpful to those with small kids. Indeed, it took a BA staff member(also a passenger) to help sort things out.
Once in our room we were fine but breakfast on day one was a disaster. There was no buffet and the hotel packed. Not only did we wait for table but then almost an hour for 4 bowls of cereal and some toast and coffee. The toast arrived pre buttered!!!. They then had the nerve to charge $60 pPlus for this. This woulkd have been forgivable given the arrival of so many extra guests but we were there for 3 days and it never improved. The staff lacked even basic customer service skills had no empathy at all with the passengers who were there and made absolutely no effort to help or make life better. When asked for change for the laundry they had none and no one helped, there was no reduction in the $13 a night charge for internet access despite the issues being faced and the need to be on line for updates. (tHankfully I could access the Hilton service next door and did so for free).
The service in restraunts never improved and then the staff started pointing out that the vouchers being used to pay did not cover "gratuities". This depsite no change or credit being given so if you spent $10 and used a $20 voucher you got nothoing back and no meal every arriving inside 45 minutes. You could not buy a coffee or an ice cream with them and the hotel went out of their way to make their use difficult. It was shocking, absolutely shocking and so despite having $120 a day in vouchers we went elsewhere after the first disasterous day. When we eventually managed to get on a flight (thankfully the first to depart we were glad to go.)
It would have taken nothing to show some empathy and understanding to those who were stuck and who initailly had no idea how long they would be stuck. BA had been generous but had clear limits on what could and could not have been purchased. The hotel however did nothing and sought to profiteer from the misfortune of others. The menu is very limited as were the opening hours of some areas of the hotel where you could eat. Please avoid this hotel if you can it simply does not deserve business and there are better hotels around SFO airport.

This hotel seems convenient if you have an early flight out of San Francisco or arrive late but be sure you eat before you get here. The bar/restaurant selections is pretty bad. There is a steak house which I didn't eat at but it is typical hotel expensive and marginal on style and ambiance.

The only alternative is the "View" which is the giaganitic attrium type area, which looks more like the hotel lobby lounge. In this open skylighted area is the bar, lounge and it is the "regular" restaurant. Service was really, reallly slow and it was just weird. you couldn't tell if you were in the restaurant or what. It was cold and uncomfortable.

On the positive side: The windows DO look over the airport runway and Bay so the view is pretty nice if you have a window booth. The food was very good even though we waited almost an hour for it to be delivered. It was also really, really cold - which I brought a coat, extra sweater or shawl,.

Room was nice, typically marriott style - no complaints here but don't waste the money for the bay view - windows were dirty and honestly you can go downstairs and watch the planes take off.

I've stayed in this hotel for 5 day work weeks for the past 5 weeks. It is your typical Marriott. Clean, comfortable, but little free amenities. This hotel stands out simply due to its location. It is close to the airport, and it is right on the bay which means you have some great views (be sure to ask for a room facing the atrium). Also, there is a great walking path behind the hotel, along the bay. You can easily walk to a few restaurants at any time of the day without worry about being in an unfriendly area.

Yes, the airport shuttle fills up quickly. It also leaves on time. Yes you have to pay for internet and parking. There is no breakfast buffet and the restaurant is outrageously expensive. But this is Marriott, and you obviously know how to read Trip Advisor so you shouldn't be surprised by any of this.

If I had any pet peeves, I would say it is the music in the atrium and the doors slamming shut at all hours of the night. Yes, I am being picky. I usually go down to the atrium to get the free internet for downloading emails or skyping my family. I am on east coast time so I do it very early in the morning (4-5am). Unfortunately the music in the atrium is always turned up, and it is some wierd techo/jazz stuff that gives me a real headache. And the self-closing doors to each of the rooms are set at a very fast closing rate, so whenever anybody on your hall leaves there room, you will know it. Any and Every time. But I'm sure it is that way because the hotel wants to be sure the door latches behind you. Every time.

Again, you get the expected comfort and cleanliness of a Marriott, plus a great view and walking path. So I would recommend to stay here even if it wasn't business related and you could get a good rate.

I have stayed at this Marriott on a number of occasions the day before a flight out of SFO. The hotel is less than 10 minutes from the rental car garage on the north end of the airport. The obvious cons:

- Pay for parking
- Pay for internet

As with most full service Marriotts, you get less for your money than with one of their other brands. The hotel is pretty nice, however with a tall atrium that overlooks the runways from SFO jutting out into the bay. There is a full service Starbucks co-located and a very decent gym for a hotel. A walking/jogging path is accessible directly out the backdoor that follows the bay along the Burlingame waterfront. Rooms were standard, but with a couple nice features - flat screen televisions and a media connection device to hook up your iPod or what-have-you to the screen. The bathroom soaps were a notch above standard, and even included a luffa for scraping off that extra layer of dead skin.

Not a bad choice for an early morning flight out of SFO!
