“Excellent for proximity to SFO”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013 via mobile

Stayed here at both beginning and end of business trip. Easy, free, convenient shuttle to and from airport. Super quick check-in and checkout by friendly, efficient staff. Rooms are spacious and conducive for work by business travelers. Rooms have water views and pretty courtyard views. Plenty of food choices in hotel or within walking distance.

The hotel was conveniently located near SFO, and the room and the hotel facilities were generally clean and nice.
The hotel also has an automated Hertz kiosk, which was very convenient.
A good choice if you are visiting San Francisco for a business trip.

I would come back to this hotel when returning to San Francisco.
The shuttle runs frequently and 24/7. It was only a 10 minute ride to the airport.
Rooms are very spacious and well maintained.
Staff very friendly and helpful.

Over the years, I've stayed at this Hyatt several times. It's a good option whenever the hotels in the City are full and prices get escalated (such as New Years Eve or Halloween weekend, etc.). The Hyatt SFO is clean and comfortable, easy highway access, much less expensive than a city-center hotel, and the staff is super helpful and customer oriented. Parking is easy and plentiful, but pricey considering it's an airport hotel. Dining options are less than optimal and over-priced, but there are many restaurants within a short walking distance. The beds are awesomely comfortable and bathrooms are spotless!!! Stayed there on Halloween weekend, had a good taxi ride in to the city, received an upgrade from the hotel, and the shole stay was superb. Great view of the Bay from a scenic room. Some rooms, however, can be a bit of a long walk from the elevators due to the hotel design. Bottom line: no serious complaints about the Hyatt SFO.

This hotels is nice considering it is an airport hotel. The rooms are not too bad. The corner rooms are the best. However, sometimes there is a long walk to the elevator. 400 steps was the distance to the elevator from my room.

I didn't have trouble sleeping with the noise with an outside view. I actually prefer an outside view since an atrium view can be loud. This atrium is always so quiet - not much activity.

They should open the bar earlier than they do.

The food is not good. I actually didn't have one good meal.

However, the staff is friendly and they do try to please.

The Hyatt Regency Club is an asset and they have a wonderful spread of food for breakfast and dinner!!

Room Tip: try to stay in a corner room

Green Features: I think they are good. If you are clean enough and tidy you don't need sheets changed daily.

The hotel is sufficient for required proximity to airport for early morning flights. HOWEVER, the shuttle service is unreliable, runs significantly more infrequently than the printed schedule they give you suggests and you are better off staying downtown and taking a taxi if you can afford it because you do not save time by staying at this hotel

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2013

I'd stayed at this hotel since shortly after it opened in the 80s, and have stayed here dozens of times since it reopened after repairs, following the 1989 earthquake. Yet, sitting in an economy window seat coming in to land at SFO just before midnight on October 15th, I realized I had never reviewed it, and as I thought about it, it gradually dawned on me that over the years, this has been, and is, my favorite hotel. Anywhere.

This hotel is located about a mile south of SFO and even with the roundabout approaches to the airport is only a 6 to 8 minute shuttle ride away from any of the terminals. The shuttle service is frequent and runs 24 /7. The atrium-style hotel is built around a vast rectangular court that hosts a restaurant and other amenities one level up from the lobby and conference rooms, and the ballroom. The outside-facing rooms look out on the SF Bay with across-the-water views of Oakland and Hayward and (off in the distance) Berkeley, or on the hills of San Mateo County to the west and south, and the airport off to the north. The ninth floor has a Regency Club on the north side that serves the usual light breakfasts, evening hors d'oeuvres that, depending on your appetite, could serve as dinner, desserts till mid-evening, an honor bar, and cookies throughout the day. There's a Knuckles Bar on the premises that has one of the best ribs, burger and chicken menus I've run across. The rooms, including the bathrooms, are clean, frequently refurbished, repainted and recarpeted, have terrific mattresses on the beds, and always smell fresh.

So much for the basics. A lot of Hyatts are like that, and that's why -- along with the fact that I don't have the bucks to donate to the Ritz-Carltons of the world -- I like staying at them, a lot of them, over and over. What's made the Hyatt Regency SFO different for me over the last 20 years or so is that more often than not, when I leave home, it's been my pied a terre before jumping off onto that 6 a.m. flight to wherever, and the place I spend the night after coming in on a plane that was supposed to land at 11:08 p.m. but didn't arrive till after midnight when BART is no longer running. It's been the place to which I entrust my car when I'm gone, for up to 10 days on the hotel's great park-and-fly rate, after staying there the night before that previously-mentioned 6 a.m. departure. It's been the place where on numerous occasions, not wanting to drive all the way home after an evening in the City, I've spent the night and had breakfast the morning after before going on my way. How is it that this has been going on for more than 20 years?

It's the people, of course. The shuttle driver is efficient and helpful (he filled me in on the threatened BART strike) and, more often than not, he has the shuttle where it's supposed to be when it's supposed to be there. (It runs on a schedule; none of that "Phone us after you've collected your luggage" business.) The valet service folks go out of their way to make sure your car's there for you when you show up. The front desk people are front and center, and smiling even at 2 a.m. They explain everything you need to know, are gracious, make things as simple and easy as possible for you without being asked, and extend every courtesy they possibly can, within policy, when you do have to ask. The housekeeping staff are extremely helpful with everything within their responsibility. I've had more than one occasion to appreciate their diligence at tracking down lost property and making sure it got back to me. And the back office folks -- the in-house reservations and accounting personnel -- are as good as the front desk folks at customer service and public relations when you call them up for information or for help with a problem.

No hotel is really like home, but I will say that sitting in a plane about to land at SFO in the wee small hours of the morning, what I realized was that knowing I'm headed here makes me almost as happy as if I were headed home. And that makes this my favorite hotel anywhere.

Room Tip: Choose an outside room for expansive views with some jet noise after 6 a.m. Choose an inside (atriu...
