Very disappointed. We were told that a booking was a better way of getting in as it is so busy. We booked for the next night, there was no table available so were asked to take a seat at the bar which was impossible as it was jammed packed with people waiting for tables. 15mins later we decided to go elsewhere. A booking means nothing

My family loves Benihana, so we often make our way over here to celebrate some special occasions. As you would expect from any Benihana, a chef will cook at your table, give a little show and prepare your food right in front of you. If you're not at the sushi bar, you're at a teppanyaki grill, and will get great service, some delicious food, and maybe meet some new people since you're seated around a communal table.

The food is good! The fried rice (extra $) is highly addictive and isn't reproduced at any other teppanyaki place I've frequented. The meat is good quality, and the portions are large and always fill me up. Everyone gets a shrimp appetizer and some grilled onions/zucchini and you can make special requests (i.e. we always ask for garlic butter when cooking the meat).

The service is prompt and good. The servers are nice and relatively attentive. This location is super busy, so once you order, you may have a hard time tracking the server down, but the chef will happily help you flag them down.

Prices are reasonable, but can get expensive if you go all out with all the seafood and combos on the menu. If you sign up on their mailing list, you'll get special offers for your birthday and coupons randomly - DO IT, it's a great deal.

As for the location - it's nice. It's located just south of the airport overlooking the bay and has some beautiful views. This location is busy though! It seems impossible to make a same-day reservation via opentable (even if opentable shows availability, it will not allow you to make it) and with a reservation, you will have to wait around 15 mins to be seated. If you have no reservation, be prepared to wait upwards of 1-2 hours as they don't seem to leave a lot of room for walk-ins.

Overall, will continue coming back here. The only other locations I can think of are in San Francisco, and down in Cupertino, so this is it when it comes to peninsula locations. There are imitators, but nothing compares to Benihana. Totally worth it.

This was the second time I've eaten at this particular Benihanas over the last couple of months. The first time we ate at one of the grill tables. The food was good, in a basic sort of way, and of course the presentation was a lot of fun. The service was likewise excellent.

When I was there a week ago, the grill tables were full up, so we opted to sit in the sushi bar area. Unlike the grill experience, the food was mediocre at best - we tried a variety of sushi and sashimi dishes, but nothing really stood apart from the run-of-the-mill sort of sushi so common these days. The service was, however, still quite good.

The "very good" rating I've opted for is the net result of my two visits: I give the grill experience Excellent, and the sushi bar an Average - at best.

Cheers!

- Rodney

This location, which is located on the Old Bayshore , just south of the Millbrae exit on the bay side of highway 101. You have to look for the sign, as the restaurant is located a distance from the entrance on the street. The restaurant has mandatory free valet parking. For some reason, this seems to bother some diners, but it is free. This Benihana may the one of the busiest in California. Even with reservation, it may take a while to get a table, unless you have reservation for 8 or 10 people, where you are taking a whole table. We thought we were beating the crowd with a reservation before 6, but the place was packed, and we had a 40 minutes wait.
Your dining experiences really depends on your table chef. If you lucky and get one that is personable, and skilled at his position. It will be an enjoyable show, with slightly better than average food.
One of our party had the Hibachi Chateaubriand, which was quite tender and very delicious. The best bargain is the steak and chicken for two for $46. The prices are a little high, but you are being entertained at your table. Because this place is so busy and the cooking station are close together, it will be quite noisy. It seems that on Saturday and Sunday’s, at least half the tables are celebrating some special occasions like a birthday or graduation.

My Wife and I went to dinner at Benihana and had a blast! The restaurant is built right on the bay, so you have a nice view from most of the tables. In true Benihana fashion, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and the food is delicious! Even though there are a few regular tables, you should consider joining one of the Teppanyaki tables... you may also make some new friends..!
