“Spotless and Spacious Lodgings Near SFO”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 18, 2009

I actually booked my stay at this hotel under the misapprehension that this highly-rated hotel was one of the nicest properties available near the airport. One should always remember that the ratings system really are about whether a particular property offers value relative to its offering.

Once I thought about the rating, having arrived at the hotel, however, the high ratings seem fair - just remember that the Hampton Inn brand is the no-frills version of a Hilton hotel. The room is large, clean and has all the essential amenities one expects. The breakfast was basic but reasonable and nicely presented. It wasn't especially memorable, but perhaps what one can say is that the standard actually seems high given that most guests are probably transient for just one night and don't often return. I thought it was a pleasant experience overall.

Just south of SFO there are a number of "airport" hotels. The Hampton Inn is very satisfactory, but nothing special. It is quite inexpensive (especially by San Francisco standards). It is lacking in ambience -- basically a two-story motor lodge, where you park next to your room. (So it a very easy in & out.) However, right across the street (Old Bayshore Hwy) is the parkway running along the SF Bay marshes and a very nice Marriott. The Marriott has a huge lobby bar (floor-to-ceiling windows -- great view), with a limited menu. The Marriott also has a Starbucks. (The Westin is comparable to the Marriott in terms of amenities, but it is on the opposite side of the street from the parkway, so lacks the great view.)

The Hampton Inn serves breakfast in the morning, although the room is small. The beds and linens have been upgraded. The bathroom has a full set of toiletries. I did not attempt to use the room's internet access. It has no room service (no restaurant, just the breakfast room). The HVAC works on a thermostat fairly well. The sound insulation (airport) is fine.

Bottom line -- the Hampton Inn is a very satisfactory place. If you want something nicer and with more amenities, go to the Marriott or the Westin. If you want to save $50/night to spend on something else, it is a good choice.

Have stayed in this hotel multiple times in the past as we generally make San Francisco our port of entry when coming to the USA (we live in Asia). With small children, we generally spend a couple of nights in San Fran prior to continuing to our family on the East Coast.

This hotel is a great choice if you want to stay in the Bay Area and close to the airport without breaking the bank. The location is nice - just across the street from a nice little park along the water which is good for walking and watching the planes fly in and out of the airport. Nearby town offers everything in terms of restaurants, shopping, etc. It is a reasonably short drive into the city (or park and ride nearby).

Rooms are what one would expect from a Hampton Inn - not the Ritz but clean and nice. Free wifi, free breakfast, reasonable service. We generally pay less than $100/night to stay here which can't be beat in the Bay Area for this quality. Happy to return.

Stayed one night in room 106. Everything was adequate in size and convenience with a nice continental breakfast. Located very close to some restaurants so dinner was no problem.

My family spent one night at Hampton Burlingame Airport to stay before flying out of SFO. We found the rooms clean and spacious. The front desk staff was very helpful and the shuttle ran as advertised. Took about 5 minutes to get to airport. Would definitely stay there again.

WARNING - There are two Hampton Inn hotels near the airport with two different shuttle business. Both buses list "Hampton Inn" on the front of them so you must look on the side of the bus or ask the driver if they are going to "Hampton Inn Burlingame". Needless to say we did not know this and got on the wrong shuttle. Apparently most of the drivers will ask you before you get on but we had a very bad driver who let us on and made us feel stupid for not knowing there were two Hampton Inns (sorry, we dont travel that often and don't think about things like that, especially after a long day of traveling). I am also a little upset that the hotel staff does not tell you since you have to call them anyway to schedule the bus. It would only take them 10 seconds to mention the proper shuttle to get on. We also had to wait 35 minutes for the shuttle even though they said it would be there in 10 minutes. If anyone from the hotel is reading this, please help your customers out by improving the shuttle service.

The hotel itself was nice and clean. There was a short jogging trail accross from the hotel which a big plus. Not many local places to eat or walk to from the hotel. It mostly for airport travelers.

I was looking to spend three nights in the San Francisco Airport on my way back from Australia to London. All the hotels in the city seemed very expensive (and the exchange rate was no longer in my favour), and I wondered what the hotels near the airport could offer. They were considerably cheaper, and as Hampton Inn is one of the most reliable middle-market brands, I went for it. I have stayed at two other places on Bayshore Avenue, so I knew where it was.

Of course, being an airport hotel I expected fine views of a car park, and was not disappointed. The hotel lived up to my expectations of Hampton Inns, though I found the room strangely unsettling in its blandness - was it man, or brown, or khaki, or just sludge coloured?

It's far enough off US-101 to be quiet, and though you can hear the planes at the airport, they are not obtrusive. One plus is that you can wander across the quiet road, cross the Marriott car park, and there is an attractive walk along the shore of the bay. There are a number of restaurants nearby, some within walking distance.
