We stopped in for Brunch not too long ago and were very pleased. Dinner is always good too, a bit of light spice, and pleasant eastern atmosphere and good service.

We've eaten at the SF location on Geary a couple of times, and really liked the food, so we tried this one since we were staying at an SFO hotel. Food was excellent, and really works well when ordering family style. We had a couple of appetizers and 3 dishes for 5 people, and went home full. The place is quite loud, not a good place for a quiet romantic dinner, but great for a family or group of friends. Service was very attentive and efficient.

Will definitely go back if we're nearby again!

Food was good to very good. Tuna tower very good. Salads fresh and fruity. Service good. Not easy to converse or relax because of noise level.

The food is possibly the best Asian-Fusion I've tasted in California. There were 3 of us on a 6:30 p.m. Friday night. The lovely restaurant was not crowded and we were seated immediately by the front window that I had reserved. We ordered a large side of coconut rice, medium-spiced chicken and vegetables, and exceptionally tender grilled beef with vegetables. The serving sizes were large enough either for one filling meal or for fine sharing between two or three.

The tastes were unique and heavenly. We could not decide which dish was the most superb. They were artfully presented with subtle and bright flavors, and well mingled spices with just the right heat. The infused Thai Basil was wonderfully pungent.

Rather full, we could not pass up desert. We ordered Coconut cheesecake with berries and Tapioca custard. Both were so delicious that, like kids, we ran our fingers around the bowls.

One great and noteworthy benefit. Straits has a full Gluten-free menu of which we took happy advantage. We never missed the wheat. Our server was even skilled and kind enough to come back to us after we ordered to inform us that the potatoes offered with the beef were dusted with wheat, and he would gladly substitute a large arugula salad in their place. What attention to detail !

There is a fine drink and wine list. But there is the rub. By 7:15p.m. , the restaurant became hounded with bar minions and Straits changed the music from relaxing Asian to pounding noise of some wild type. One could easily see all the dinner patrons cringe and conversation became extremely difficult. We were dismayed to realize that in response to the racing sound, we started to eat faster. We slowed down upon recognition of the change, but our enjoyment was quite marred.

My recommendation: on weekends try to make it by 5-5:30 p.m.. Week nights are not supposed to be as over-run with noise. Our waiter suggested Brunch on the weekends when the music is soothing.

On a Friday night 3 of us escaped a conference for some food and conversation at the Straits. Our server was pleasant and the food was okay, but it was not very peaceful or good for relaxation after a busy conference day. The drink glasses had not been able to keep up with the crowd, so what could have been elegant cocktails arrived in rather oddly chosen vessels as we sat in close quarters with the happy but noisy fellow diners. The atmosphere was a little too stimulating for my tastes!
