“Surprise stop made for a repeat visit.”

We were told to try Portos so when we were looking for lunch we stopped in. It was a good lunch. Sandwiches were large and good. The potato ball things(don't know what they were called) were good too. We got some pastries on the way out and snacked on them for the day.
The place was packed at lunch but they were effenciant to seat us.
The next morning we were looking for breakfast so we went back. The Lorado sandwich was delicious. Been craving ever since. The wife's bacon panini was good too. I ate half. Good place, highly recommend. Prices were not bad too. It was like 4.50 for a decent sandwich.

“Deserving of its #1 spot”

Everything was good here: the food, the service, and the atmosphere. There was definitely some controlled chaos going on, which was handled by the staff beautifully. We will definitely be there again soon.

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2013

I found this on tripadvisor and decided to go. The line was almost out the door. I tried the potato balls and the Rellenito. Both were amazing. The line moves very quickly and the menu contains a huge selection of unique desserts and great food for a meal. Stopping here is a must!

“Sometimes yes, sometimes no.”

We hav visited Portos three times in the past week. The experiences different in each case. The reviews in this section pretty well cover the basics and don't vary much. Well oiled logistics and service are pretty well drilled throughout the numerous staffers (associates?) they seem to have been pretty well trained. We arrived around 9am on a Sat morning faced with hordes (well, something close to a horde, at least).(how many hordes in a score?) the sight of the crowd evoked thoughts of finding something less arduous than what I estimated as a 20+ minute wait, maybe more . My partner was adamant about her finding a couple of prime seats on the sidewalk outside, thus we did. The actual wait to get to the order taker was less than 10 min. The subsequent wait for food delivery was less than 10 wIth lots of people watching filling the minutes. Almost everyone leaving has a Portos bag with them. Mostly take out orders with a lot carting home leftover from their order - the portions on sandwiches, etc. are quite generous. Pricing is very affordable and low vs. the market, especially for the product being served. Ok! The basics are done quite well, why the wavering on ranking overall? On our first experience the food was good (pastries, scones, coffee, juice)' as we're other aspects. Visit #2 chorizo omelette. Omelette was too rich (cheese), didn't care for chorizo (personal taste), chicken empanadas "too" something - again personal tastes, just disappointing - finished half of the order. Bringing us up to today. Cheese and guacamole omelette on a croissant. Food was served 1/2 warm, croissant mushy, not flaky.,just not acceptable to higher standards.will we be back? My partner loves the place - you tell me..

Ghh

“Eat Here: delicious food and sweets!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 20, 2013

We ate lunch here before the Warner Brothers Studio Tour (about 5 minutes away). It was so delicious. It's a very busy place, but they have staff directing people when you enter -- there's two lines (bakery only and cafe items with a few bakery options). The detailed menu with descriptions was appreciated since this was our first experience with Cuban fare. Three of us split meat pies, potato balls, empanadas, and chorizo pie -- love that you can order just one of small portions and try a variety of items. We also split a ropa viejo sandwich and mariquitas (plantain chips). Of course, we also had to sample something sweet, and ate a guava strudel and an almond danish. Everything was fresh and fabulous, plus the price was right (all of the named food plus three drinks = about $20). Wish we had time to eat here again!
