We didn't realize just how easy it is to get online tickets to tv shows. The tonight show is certainly different without commercials and with the warm-up. Jay is great, comes out early in blue jeans and talks to the audience, some good jokes, his sidekick is a great warmer upper. He is very funny. The band plays before, during commercials and after, and is terrific. We would pay money just to hear them. The guests will say things during commercials that you don't hear on tv. Words to the wise: a lot of waiting, it is a 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. deal. Dress well and you will be seated where friends watching may see you, dress like a slob and you will be seated where no one will find you. If you're young and/or good looking you may be picked to do the opening high fives with Jay. If you are staying out of L.A. you will hit heavy, heavy traffic going home.

The experience of actually seeing the set and the "behind the camera" perspective is fun. They have some really talented people who are quite entertianing during the pre-show and commercial breaks. Basically, their job is to whip the crowd into a frenzy and get them clap, cheer and and really get into the show.
The only down side is that there is a considerable wait in line outside (and it was COLD on the day we were there) before they let you inside. My husband noticed that they have water misters for hot days...I imagine it would be even more miserable a wait if it were really hot out. Our tickets said to be there no later than 2:45. We got there about 2:20 - and ending up being in about the last 10% of the total line. Get there as early as you're willing to wait... if you're more toward the front of the line, at least you'll wait inside for more of the time.
We were done at 5:15...so a total investment of about 3 hours. Despite the wait in line, I'd do it again if someone else wanted to see the show. And hey, it's FREE... hard to beat that!

Had a great time going to a Tonight show taping. Be ready to stand in lines and wait awhile before you get to go in. So, make the most of it, get to know the folks around you and enjoy the moments. Jay is gracious with all and took the time to greet us and tell some jokes before he went to his dressing room. Taping was fun and energetic, and afterwards we hung out by the driveway gate to watch him drive out. He waved and sped away!

Overall, it was a fun afternoon. The tickets say to get there by 2:45, but beware, the "tickets" don't guarantee admission. You need to be there by 1:30 or so to be in the "top pack" of guests. Others who came closer to 2:45 were sent away. After the taping, there were offers from the staff for VIP tickets to the next day's show. so if you want them, be ready and keep your schedule open for the next day.

Our Tonite Show visit was a lot of fun. I'd recommend it to anyone in the area. Just remember to bring a jacket or sweater; they keep the studio very cold.

I surprised my son with a trip to see Jay Leno. It was a fun experience for both of us. They have about 400 seats, we arrived at 1:45 and were in the studio before 4. The taping is over at 5:15.
