Apologies for lengthy review but wanted to try and answer the questions I had before our visit...

Managed to get 2 free 'stand-by' tickets for the show via the ticket website 30 days before filming. We were advised to be at 'Gate 8', across the road from the backlot, around 2:30pm. Not taking any chances we arrived at 11:00am and already 15th/16th in queue. First group in line had been there since 8:30am. Waiting area is under cover (parking lot) with benches, vending machines and toilets. Around 2pm a food truck pulled up outside for an hour or so.

By 2:30pm over 50 people in queue. At 4:00pm ticketing staff arrived and checked tickets/IDs. Around 60mins before showtime, after the VIP and 'priority ticket' guests had been admitted, we were told they had around 20 seats left for standbys. Sound Stage 25 holds around 200. In the end I would say 80 standbys were turned away.

The 20 or so standbys were then escorted to the backlot. The ticketing staff and WB security ask you to leave bags/cell phones in your car before leaving the parking lot. However, anyone not in a car, like us, could leave this with WB security, along with ID, at the sound stage entrance until after the show. We were also told that no memorabilia was allowed.

Unfortunately, being the last to be seated meant the only seats left were off to one side (in front of Penny's apartment and the hallway) with the VIPs in the centre section in front of Sheldon/Leonard apartment. There was a basic souvenir ‘programme’ on each seat. The MC introduced the cast then they played back an unaired episode.

The recording then began and the scenes filmed in order, even if it means jumping from one set to another and back again. Pre-recorded scenes are played back on monitors at the appropriate time in the story. The cast also re-enacted a 'green screen' car ride to record the audience reaction.

A couple of hours in, we were given pizza and water. Recording finished around 10:00pm, after something like 12 live scenes. A couple of the actors said a few words before we were escorted back to Gate 8. WB security will order cabs if required.

Overall, it was a brilliant night and great to see the behind the scenes workings of a show like this. One downside, apart from the seven hour wait, was the MC and his ‘audience participation’ between takes which was basically a platform for the attention seeking audience members to share their ‘talents’. Annoying but wasn’t going to spoil a brilliant experience we would recommend to any BBT fan, just get there early!

We'd booked the tour online in advance because it can be popular. The tour starts with a introductory film about Warner Bros to get you in the mood. We then transferred with our guide to a multi-seater electric golf cart. The tour lasts a little under two hours in which time you get to see various sets, props, the museum and studios from famous films and TV shows. Our guide was very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions or just to help take our photos. The best bits were sitting on the Friends sofa in Central Perk, seeing the emergency room entrance from ER and standing in The Big Bang Theory studio. If you're really lucky you might spot a celebrity!

Even though we travel to Los Angeles frequently we mostly do the beach and restaurants but this time we decided to book the tour and very happy we did. We booked two weeks in advance to secure the time of the tour we wanted which was Friday at 2:15pm I believe. Parking is located right next to WB Records on Avon St & Warner Bvld. There is a fee to park per car. From there you just cross the cross walk and into the building to check in for your tour. We did the VIP Tour which is a group of 12 people, we took up 4 spots, the golf cart is in rows of three.

Our tour guide Gary was fantastic, I got to sit up front with him during our tour and he was very informative. He made sure that we hit all the spots the group was interested in. No shows film on Fridays so no Ellen to "commandeer" our cart. The group really wanted to see the set of Big Bang Theory however the cast was in their rehearsing. Luckily they radioed the tour guides giving the green light to go in once the cast left. Not all tours will be the same, some days you get to see different sets and even some celebrities driving around. If you're looking to get more glimpses of celebrities I would suggest Mon-Wed when more shows are filming and actors are working. If you're a hug Pretty Little Liars fan you will definitely notice a lot of sets from the show. Be sure to let your tour guide know what it is you're looking forward to seeing so they can try to make it happen.

All in all the experience was amazing and I would do the tour again in a heart beat, we're even considering the deluxe 5 hour tour because there's so much to see. Have a great time and relax.

We did a VIP tour in Saturday , March '13.
Overall it worth relatively high cost. You always can find some discount code in web.
No filming on Sat , so we visited a stages that usually are closed for the filming. Everything was well organized. A lot of interesting staff : history of Hollywood , real cars and costumes. Harry Potter museum was magnificent .
Recommended both for adult and children.
