“Don't go with a tent!”
Reviewed May 28, 2014

It took an hour to be "escorted" to a remote section of a huge field where I set up my tent. The fenced tent sites pictured on the website are "reserved" (many stayed empty the whole weekend). The field looks down on the main highway, so you will hear traffic all day and night. Might as well camp on the center divider!

The 2nd day we moved closer to the middle of the field, and were rewarded with a group that talked till midnight, just three feet from our heads. Even with ear plugs, I was awake all night.

Bathrooms in the non hookup area are old, but okay. Well tended. Lots of activities for kids, and spontaneous soccer games because of the field. Swimming pool totally packed with kids too. It's impossible to swim.

Food is edible, way too expensive. $18 for yucky canned beans and trip tip.

If you have a big rv and like to vacation in a zoo, this is the place for you.

Room Tip: Stay away from the end of the field that overlooks the highway.

There is no doubt that camping at Flying Flags on a major holiday or summer weekend is a different experience than other times. If you prefer a serene camping experience with plenty of site choices, we suggest trying to plan your visit during the week or in the lovely spring and fall seasons. Families absolutely love the resort when school is out. Our Friday night BBQs have become very popular and many of our guests feel it’s a good value with a generous portion of Certified Angus Tri-Tip steak, choice of 2 side dishes, a drink and desert for $18. We apologize that it didn’t meet your expectations and thank you for your feedback regarding our amenities and services.

Basic background: We camped here with full hook-ups on a reservation for a one week stay, in a 40 foot class-A diesel pusher with a superslide. Our site #111 is located on the last row right by the gate to pass through to the Days Inn hotel and bar. We fit with room for our tow car parked at a slight angle behind the rv.
Upon arrival we were happy with the cleanliness and amenities found here and decided to try to extend our stay by another 10 days which would see us through the Memorial Day Holiday. The registration staff bent over backwards to work with us and were able to grant us the extended stay without even having to change our site--absolutely incredible!
Details: As mentioned in a previous review here, the registration office was in a temporary location while a remodel was being done but it has since moved into it's permanent location and now is a warm, inviting, more spacious space. There's also a new store attached that I found to be well stocked with items both useful and unexpected.
Some amenities: This is the first rv park that I've been to that had a workout room and a cat area! The workout room has treadmills, and ellipticals that I intended to actually make use of but didn't because I was enjoying the the pool and two hot tubs too much. The cat area is a neat idea and we used it once but there were a great many dogs being walked and our cat just wasn't as relaxed as he could have been. It's basically a dog run with a fenced roof so I think in a more dog-free area he would have had a ball rolling on the ground and sniffing at everything.
We found this rv resort to offer us a secure, comfortable, attractive, fully operational site for a reasonable cost.
Other details: Good size laundry room, game/rec room, on-site cafe over weekends, large dog park, smaller dog runs, great playground for kids, nice pool and water play area, an adult only hot tub as well as a family hot tub, fantastic firepit gathering area, holiday events and movies for the kids on special days, a new store and registration area, and clean and well maintained to top it off.
Nothings absolutely perfect in real life though, right? As I stated, our site was right by the gate to the hotel/bar next door. During our stay here, we were treated to wedding reception music twice and one loud bar patron another night. These were not in anyway connected to the resort but the sound was noticeable. The receptions both ended promptly at 10 pm, and I just switched on the fan to drown out the drunk guy so not sure how long he lasted.
Also, we too were excited to try the "dog wash" and were disappointed to find it out of order. We inquired and were told that the manufacturer has gone out of business and parts are no longer available so sadly it will probably stay inoperable.

Room Tip: If the occasional noise from the hotel and bar may bother you, ask for a spot on the opposite side o...

Although I would prefer the beach or woods, this was a perfect place to test our our new trailer overnight. The place was very clean and really quiet at night. It is more perfect for kids I think, but still good if you're on the road and need a nice clean place to pull over. They have little events going on, small store, pool, horseshoes, dog park... Lots of things. Walking distance is Mother Hubbards which served us a great breakfast that we split...was more than enough. Went to Solvang (meh, but fun to taste different pastries)... But still was pretty fun and no riff raff there.

Room Tip: I would park with the rv facing the kids park. More trees.

Somewhat disappointed with our stay this time. We were looking forward to the BBQ on friday evening but some in our party could not afford the $18 charge which I felt was a little too much. We did not get our dessert or beverage and felt it was disorganized. The office / store was under construction so simple supplies were not available. Needed to give the dog a bath before we headed home and it was out of order. Sunday breakfast was a disaster as they couldn't seem to get the order right, it took over 40 minutes and were out of almost all the meat by 10:15.

We apologize for the temporary conditions you experienced during our office/restaurant remodel. When our new restaurant is completed this summer, our guests will be able to enjoy the best California comfort food creations. In the meantime, we truly appreciate your patience. Our interim facilities limit the amount of food we can prepare which was a factor for breakfast on the very busy Mother’s Day. We did have plenty of food for our Friday night BBQ though which features generous portions of Certified Angus Tri-Tip steak, BBQ Chicken and Baby Back Ribs. This poolside dinner includes 2 sides + desert & beverage all for $16.65+tax. We usually receive many compliments on our BBQ and hopefully your group realized there is enough food to share orders. We hope you will come back and enjoy the resort when we have completed our improvements. There will be many surprises planned that we know our guests will love.

Great place to be with your RV. The welcome was the best, the guy at the gate said: :"Hey it's great you are finally here". As we needed no hookup and it was not busy yet we could stay on the big field with plenty of room to play foodball and fly a kite. The new bathrooms are spacious and spotless. It has a nice swimming pool with very nice cabanas.

When my princess of a daughter asked me to join her for a week of "camping," I have to admit that I was a little nervous. Upon arrival, I was blown away by the mature trees & beautiful landscaping. I knew it was true love when they gave me my warm complimentary white chocolate chip cookie. It was immediately clear that this place truly was a "resort". The pool was refreshing & well maintained. Evenings were delightfully social with the community fire pit. The store sold beer/wine & the essentials. The staff all greeted & welcomed me. They were friendly, full of smiles & knowledgeable about the local attractions. Centrally located, Solvang is just 3 miles & you can walk to wine tasting & local restaurants. Buellton is quaint with lots of charm. The rental airstreams/cottages are unique and inspiring & the staff were more then happy to give me a tour. Rv'ers are naturally outgoing people and I was even offered a ride on a motorized trike-it was a blast! I now see why people like to stay here for weeks at a time! We will definitely be back! THANK YOU, Flying Flags Resort Staff!!

Room Tip: Not a bad seat in the house!

We love staying at Flying Flags. We have been camping here since our kids were little. Now we bring our grandkids. The facilities are beautiful, clean and abundant. The pool is big and deep, and wonderful with a large shallow area for the little ones. Even the camp store is cool! The staff is friendly, helpful and accommodating. They have several cabins you can rent, so we have had friends who have come and rented a cabin so we could go wine tasting together. The cabins are cozy and like little apartments complete with front porch! We are looking forward to our next stay in a couple of weeks.

Room Tip: If you have a large group or kids, or just like extra space, ask for a super deluxe site. We find i...
