“Still needs a little work”
Reviewed August 12, 2013

This restaurant, well-hidden behind a large custom crush wine facility at the end of Industrial Road, is an interesting concept that is on the edge of being very good. I stopped by for lunch in July 2012 and again in August 2013.

You are given a card to swipe to get your own wine and you can choose a taste, a half glass or a full glass. There are some 50 wines to choose from, which seem to be mostly from wineries that use their facility, since I had never heard of many of them, despite the fact that I spend a week or so in the Central Coast tasting 2-3 times/year.

Food servers are friendly, but they could be much more efficient. This time I got there after the lunch crowd, so I was the only customer who hadn't ordered food. As is the case in many restaurants when it's slow, the servers spend more time chatting with each other than serving their customers. The three grilled shrimp tasted good, but were undercooked. I ate them anyway, but paid the price the next morning. The three meatballs came undercooked, as well; but I sent them back. They were tasty. The wines I tried were all good.

If they tighten up the ship both in the kitchen and in the front of the house, they could become an excellent tapas place. Other than A Ru, Avant is the only place in Buellton worth eating at.

“Hidden gem”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

This restaurant and wine bar has to be one of the best kept secrets. At the end of the unpromisingly-named Industrial Road we were surprised to find a beautiful, classy restaurant with excellent food and wine. Don't miss it.

“Wonderful”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

A very good friend of ours introduced us to this place. We loved it. Loved the wine bar with the convience of the pay cards and great selection. So nice to have the control in our own hands. The food was wonderful too. They had a pulled pork sandwich on special that was just wonderful. Also the Yuppie Crack is something you have to try.

“Nice menu, large wine tasting options”
Reviewed July 26, 2013

They have a card system that lets you sample a large number of wines. When you're done, they read the card and tally it up. Probably should not go too overboard on the tasting. The stuffed figs were really good as were the sliders and patatas.

“Wall of Wine!”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

This was a very good and fun restaurant. We went on a Friday night. We had reservations and were stuck in traffic coming from L.A. Hostess was very accomodating in changing our reservation time. When we were seated they had a personalized bottle of wine welcoming us to the restaurant. We ordered the cheese plate which was good and our friendly and helpful waiter explained how the wall of wine worked. It is like a long soda fountain (similar to what you find in Quick Trip stores) but instead of colas they had a huge selection of wine. There are three options for each wine on the wall - taste, half glass or full glass. The taste prices range from a little over a dollar to close to three dollars.
For dinner I had the chicken and my companion had the halibut. Oh pure heaven! Very very very good. We topped the night off with lattes and cheesecake. There was live music and the band was very enjoyable. I give Avant two big thumbs up!
