This restaurant, well-hidden behind a large custom crush wine facility at the end of Industrial Road, is an interesting concept that is on the edge of being very good. I stopped by for lunch in July 2012 and again in August 2013.
You are given a card to swipe to get your own wine and you can choose a taste, a half glass or a full glass. There are some 50 wines to choose from, which seem to be mostly from wineries that use their facility, since I had never heard of many of them, despite the fact that I spend a week or so in the Central Coast tasting 2-3 times/year.
Food servers are friendly, but they could be much more efficient. This time I got there after the lunch crowd, so I was the only customer who hadn't ordered food. As is the case in many restaurants when it's slow, the servers spend more time chatting with each other than serving their customers. The three grilled shrimp tasted good, but were undercooked. I ate them anyway, but paid the price the next morning. The three meatballs came undercooked, as well; but I sent them back. They were tasty. The wines I tried were all good.
If they tighten up the ship both in the kitchen and in the front of the house, they could become an excellent tapas place. Other than A Ru, Avant is the only place in Buellton worth eating at.
