“So glad Zorro is back”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2013

We were so excited to see that Casa del Zorro was back, that we booked immediately for 5 nights at the re-introductory rate. Overall, Zorro is looking good, but with a few rough edges, like mis-matched furniture and sparse flowers, and a terrible wine list. The room was lovely except for the furniture and the absurd $25 charge to build a fire. (I did it myself with no problem instead.) The Butterfield restaurant is overpriced although the food is generally good. Eating at Fox Den, the bar, would be ok except for the skimpy wine and beer options. The staff is obviously delighted to be back in business. We definitely recommend Zorro, but note that it is not fully up to par, including that the Spa is NOT open. The pools are open, and the fitness room has good weight lifting equipment but very poor cardio offerings.

Room Tip: The rooms overlooking the pools are wonderful, very spacious and comfortable.

We just held a conference for about 30 people and everyone raved about the rooms, facilities and quality of the food. The resort is luxurious and peaceful. The service was extraordinary and the food superb. The premises were beautifully maintained, The staff truly catered to us. We will be returning.

Room Tip: All the rooms are very nice and have super comfortable beds. The three bedroom "Desert Star,&q...

We were really happy that Casa Del Zorro had reopened. We took advantage of the special rate that included breakfast and enjoyed one night stay recently. The room was great! The bed was very comfortable. Everything was clean, fresh and new. The only thing that might make the room a little nicer, is to add more lighting. The room is too dark. The grounds were very well kept. You can see they have been paying attention to details. The pools were wonderful too. The staff was so friendly and nice. The lady at the front desk in the evening was very helpful. It is a little oasis in the desert!

The dinner at the restaurant was very disappointing. We didn't care for the food at all and the service was slow. My dish seemed like it had just been reheated, not fresh at all. I understand that they are in the desert, but I think they need to try harder in the restaurant. A few changes could really make them stand out.

We will be returning to Casa Del Zorro!

We were a group of 20 people coming to the desert for some r&r. Its a great property and just needs some new management.
Room service and pool service would be a plus as there isn't any.
A spa would be great too.....but no spa.

Its nice to see this place has opened up again. Its a very comfortable hotel; 10 rooms to a bldg. with a swimming pool in between two bldg.'s. Each room is a suite with a balcony overlooking the pool. Very quiet and relaxing. The food is excellent, but you may have to wait awhile for it. Would go back anytime.

Room Tip: None needed.

While the resort itself is very nice, the dining room staff needs some work. There is not enough wait staff and they are very 'under-trained' for a four diamond resort. Not exactly a fine dining experience. The staff is nice but they don't know anything about the menu or the food being served. They are also not very consistent. We have eaten here 3 times and all three times the black bean soup was served different. Once with a side of sherry, the other 2 times you had to ask for it and it was almost like you were bothering them. They need to step up their training.

We first stayed at LCDZ in 1991 then decided to have our marriage ceremony performed on the grounds in 1993. We were guests 2-3 times after that but in 2007 it was sold to an investor who had a vision that lasted about a year. The hotel closed and reopened with new owners in 2013. We were excited and booked a room for the last few days of Oct. 2013. We are thrilled that this wonderful resort is back in business. Our large beautifully-decorated room with its fireplace, french door that opens to the pool area, high-end fixtures in a brightly lit bathroom, and other fine furnishings were so comfortable we didn't want to leave it. Don't miss the dining room for high-end delicious food and impeccable service or the cozy bar for light meals and live entertainment on weekends. The landscaping and grounds are very-well maintained. The resort has five pools, tennis, jogging path, archery range, etc.
