We spent two nights at the Borrego Valley Inn in late January 2013. We had a wonderful time. The Inn is a delightful base for exploring the Anza-Borrego State Park. The hosts were friendly and knowledgeable. The rooms were spacious, clean, comfortable, and very quiet. The breakfast buffet was delicious, with fresh fruit, home baked pastries, and Mexican-inspired warm entrees; we especially enjoyed the tacos the first morning. Fresh coffee and cold drinks are available all day, and a selection of cookies in the late afternoon. The grounds are well maintained with a great variety of desert plants. Sitting in the patio we saw many small birds, and a wild roadrunner scurrying through the yard! It was hard to leave back to the city. Our only regret is not being there during the spring blooming of the desert wildflowers.

Room Tip: We had an end room, which was very private and quiet. All rooms, I think, have private patios. On a...

Thank you for choosing the Inn as your base to explore the amazing Anza-Borrego Desert State Park right outside our doors. It sounds like you made the most of your visit, and we share your delight in that. A spring bloom is never guaranteed (Mother Nature holds the secret close!), but we're hoping for a few flowers this spring, especially if we get more rain. But there's always something to enjoy and marvel at, so no worries! And YES, all rooms have private back patios, a peaceful place for rest, relaxation, and of course, stargazing. We appreciate your post and hope to see you again another time!

The rooms, setting and gracious welcome of our hosts were so much more than expected. Ask about anything.. restaurants, nature, local history, etc. They have changing artists exhibition in the common area and a fantastic library of every resource you'd need to read up on when visiting the local desert.

Don't miss the aviary of New Zealand finches in the central courtyard! One could watch them play for hours.

For lunch or dinner, the French Corner Restaurant just off the traffic circle in town is a perfect compliment for a unique Borrego Springs experience.

Thank you for becoming a part of our little oasis here! We couldn't be happier that you found it a place of "joy and comfort," because that's our aim. We think it just comes naturally -- our entire team, from housekeepers to chef to guest hosts and owners, is a group of long-time friends and residents who truly love living here and sharing desert hospitality at the Inn.

And we echo your sentiments about the French Corner. Whenever we're in that exquisite little place, we have to remind ourselves what a "unique" environment Borrego Springs has to offer the authentic explorer. Thanks for being one of them!

The Inn is set in beautiful desert-themed gardens. The rooms are very comfortable and are decorated with interesting artwork and fabrics. There are lots of places to sit and relax in the gardens, patios and lobby. The breakfast was incredible. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is ideal for exploring Anza Borrego Desert State Park.

Thanks for choosing the Inn for your "escape," a word that many guests use to describe their experience here. We're glad you found it ideal for exploring -- that's the bingo! We've always enjoyed the wonderful juxtaposition here of absolute wilderness -- where it's possible to hike in places where you see no people or evidence of them for miles in every direction -- and lovely creature comforts like chef Pamela's "incredible" breakfasts or the perfect cheeseburger at Carlee's. Perfect "escape," in our opinion! We're happy you liked it, too, and we hope to see you again.

A friend and I escaped the San Diego routine recently to spend overnight at the Borrego Valley Inn. We had a wonderful time, hiking in nearby Anza-Borrego and enjoying the relaxing atmosphere of Borrego Springs. The weather was perfect. The Inn was a great choice. Our room was inviting, private and perfect. We talked about spending time there during Christmas. I highly recommend the Inn and the locale. Bring a bike and enjoy great bike rides, including a challenging slog up Montezuma Grade to nearby Ranchita. A total of ~4000 feet of climbing over about 12 miles.

Your "escape from San Diego" brings a smile. We're only about 90 miles -- but an entirely different world -- away. Many of our guests are San Diegans who appreciate access to such a wildly different environment so close to home.

Thank you so much for visiting, and we're pleased you found things peaceful, calming, and wonderful. The Borrego Valley is a haven for recreational cyclists, affording miles and miles of scenic routes, from easy to very challenging. You mention Montezuma Grade -- when former pro biker Floyd Landes stayed with us a number of years ago, that was his routine. In for breakfast and then out all day, going up and down the Grade. Whew! We hope to see you again soon -- think of us when the coast is shrouded in the dreaded May Gray/June Gloom! Until then, happy trails!

When we drove in to this area we thought, "UH OH"!
But we were so wrong. The Inn was a lovely place to stay and the breakfast was wonderful. The grounds were peaceful and a nice place to sit and relax.
Would stay here again when visiting Anza Borrego Desert State Park.

We originally stayed here 5 years ago and really liked the Casita suite, beautiful peaceful garden, good breakfast and pleasant ambiance. Sadly this time it seems some maintenance has been overlooked and it is perhaps getting a little "tired" around the edges. Having said that it is still a nice place to stay - probably the best in Borrego Springs and the breakfast is still very good. Unfortunately we hit a rare cold spell which meant we had to have the heating on most of the night and the noise from this kind of spoilt the peace. But it is very well located for the Anza Borrego State Park and we would still recommend it over and above other locations in this area.

Room Tip: The Casita has the most space with king size bedroom and full living/eating area and kitchen.

Thank you for visiting again and for posting your review. We'd like to know more about "some maintenance" that was overlooked. If you'd be so inclined, we invite you to email us at "improvements@borregovalleyinn.com" to give us more specifics so we can properly address them.

We'd also appreciate learning more about what you found to be "tired around the edges." Just last year, we completely \re-decorated la Casita Suite. It was freshly painted throughout, and we upgraded all furnishings, including a new sofa, new king mattress, new flat-screen TV and DVD player, new iPod sound system, new linens, and all new patio furniture. Any insights about what you found "tired" would be greatly appreciated.

We're sorry that the central heat system spoiled your tranquility during the cold spell. Mother Nature is always in charge here! We hope we have the opportunity to please you with a 5-star experience the next time you visit.

The drive through the mountains should have prepared us for the delightful experience of staying in Borrego. We arrived early at the Borrego Valley Inn but the owner very kindly showed us to our room. The adobe style hotel is nestled in 15 acres with gardens so immaculate, filled with desert plants and a large aviary. Our room one of 15 was decorated tastefully in southwestern style, Saltillo tiled floors and with a mini fridge and microwave. Not needed by use but useful for longer stays. The private terrace was a very pleasant place to sit and read. Breakfast was excellent, frittata, fruit and homemade breads, as well as yoghurt with granola. The swimming pool was wonderful after a five mile hike and sleep came easily in this charming oasis.

Thank you for finding and visiting the Inn! We're happy you enjoyed the Inn's distinctive desert ambiance and setting. We're fortunate to make our lives here, and we're doubly fortunate to meet so many engaging people from all over the world. As east-coast natives ourselves, we understand the appeal of different environments, and we're especially pleased to share it! We hope to see you again on your next west coast visit. Until then, happy trails to you!
