“It all aboiut the locals.”
Reviewed October 22, 2010

It is not about the food, it is a place where you know everyone and you can talk to everyone.
It 's everyone's living room, a place where everyone is respected and where respect is demanded or else...I would go there everyday if I had time. I try at least once or twice a week.On week-ends bikers and hikers, artists children, parents, grandparents. BUSY.

“wish it was closer to home”
Reviewed August 19, 2010

it's good food and fair prices in a casual place. yes it's a bar, but it's also very family friendly. we've been several times over the last 2 yrs and have never had a bad meal. the baked grinders are fantastic, homemade potato chips hot & crispy. employees friendly, service good. Borrego Springs is our quick get-away destination and Carlee's Place is the first choice to eat.

“Mediocre Food”
Reviewed June 22, 2010

Let's start by saying that there are very few choices for eating out in Borrego Springs (especially in June when everything is closed). This is a bar--they serve food! The atmosphere was great for a bar--and our service was pretty good. I would say stick to burgers and sandwiches to be safe. The ribs were not that great and I read that the pizza was horrible. They served gazpacho and it wasn't super---it definitely had some "suspect" mini shrimp in there--but alas we did not get sick! Maybe we are just too spoiled with all the superb food in San Diego! The french corner was closed when we visited and the Arches were also under a 2 week renovation for that hotel too. If burgers is what you are looking for Carlee's Place will do for sure!

“Pizza was the worst we've ever eaten”
Reviewed April 19, 2010

Due to the fact that most of the restaurants are closed in the low season (summer) we decided not to eat at Carmelita's Mexican Grill for a 3rd night in a row & instead tried the pizza (takeout) from Carlee's. It was the worst pizza we've ever eaten. Being that we grew up in NYC & near Chicago, respectively, we DO have high standards for pizza, but the frozen pizza sold at Trader Joe's is light years better.

The pizza from Carlee's was GREASY, had a thick crust that tasted like cardboard, tomato sauce tasted straight out the can. Truly awful. We threw it out. It cost about $20.

“Five nights in Borrego, 3 meals at Carlee's”
Reviewed April 8, 2010

We spent 5 days in Borrego Springs, we didn't want to get dressed up and Carlee's fit right in with how and when and what we wanted to eat. We ate here 3 times my wife and I had something different each meal and everything we had was really good. Is Carlee's Spago, No. Is it a casual place where the locals go, sure is. Huge menu, something for everyone, from sandwiches and pizza to steak and pasta. A must try are their homemade potato chips. Also Tony the bar tender pours a mean shot of Knob Creek,. The wait staff were all very pleasant. Make a reservation if the town has a lot of people in it.
