“Amazing stay - wish it wasn't so far away from Minnesota!”
Reviewed October 8, 2013

Wow, what a beautiful resort! My wife and I stayed at Bodega Bay Lodge on September 10th. That morning, we finished our amazing night stay in Shelter Cove, CA and then enjoyed the beautiful drive down the coast to Bodega Bay. The check-in at Bodega Bay Resort was quick, and the staff was very kind and courteous. My wife and I only stayed here one night, but we enjoyed every minute of our stay. We enjoyed our peaceful and beautiful room and also enjoyed the luxuries of our room with robes, wine, chocolate, nuts and so very much more. What a delightful treat it was to open the closet door and find robes! My wife is in a power-wheelchair, and she found the large room and large bathroom very satisfactory. I definitely strive to not judge a book by its cover, but the cover won this time with the restaurant menu in our room for the restaurant at the resort - the menu didn't provide, at least for us, with a lot of options, and the prices were a bit high as well. I'm sure the restaurant is very good, but we chose to enjoy take-out seafood from a local seafood restaurant in town instead. Overall though, we loved our stay and can't wait to return the next time we're in Bodega Bay!

Room Tip: Stay here!

We spent two nights at the Bodega Bay Lodge while in transit from Sonoma to San Francisco. It was a lovely, well kept property with stunning views of the bay. The room had a fireplace and how lovely to lay in their very comfortable bed with a fire going, the patio door open a bit and the gentle bleating of the fog horn. Perfectly wonderful and relaxing.
We had dinner at the Duck Club both nights and the food was quite good. Michael, the manager was a very friendly and knowledgable host. He obviously likes his job and is willing to share knowledge of the area, wines and places to visit around the bay.

I had stayed at Bodega Bay Resort years ago, and having been at a conference nearby I decided to come back. I was not. Very relaxing, fabulous sunsets. nice pool and small gym area. Everyone talks about the Ventura Highway between San Fran and LA, but Highway 1 NORTH of San Francisco is much less known and equally, if not more, beautiful. The road is not for the faint hearted and not to be undertaken in fog or bad conditions but Highway 1 northern California is a classic and Bodega Bay is well situated along this route. Get a Bodega Bay room with a view of the sea and gardens - and visit the nearby State Park, worth the $7 entry. You can eat at Bodega Bay in the restuarant or bar, and the food is good. The drawback, if there is one, is cost. Expensive place to stay - worth it on special occassions

Room Tip: get a room with a view over the ocean and state park

This lodge is conveniently located just as you enter Bodega Bay at almost the entrance Doran State Beach. From the lodge, there is a hiking path across the wetlands where you can go for bird viewing or just to walk over to the beach. The Bodega Bay Upper room was furnished with a king-size bed and large room with vaulted ceilings, a fireplace, balcony with chairs to enjoy the sunsets, a very large well-appointed bath. The bed was very comfortable. Rooms are quiet even with the sliders left open. Hotel staff is friendly and very helpful, offering advice on the lodge's amenities as well as places to go in town. Full spa facilities at the hotel include a number of different massages as well as facials. My wife enjoyed the massage and facial as part of a birthday gift from her daughter. The hotel has a very good restaurant in the Duck Club and a more casual eatery at the Drake Fireside where you can order from the Duck Club menu. Staying at the lodge was a delight, and one we want to do again.

Room Tip: Go for the upper rooms.

Our scheduled trip to California included a visit to Yosemite Park but shortly after we arrived on the West Coast, the lodge we were scheduled to stay at was forced to close because of the fire. We were looking for a quick alternative and chose Bodega Bay. The Lodge turned out to be a very different experience from our original plan but very enjoyable nevertheless. Our room was on the second floor and was very spacious and quiet, with a fireplace that we enjoyed using. The Duck Club restaurant was reasonably good, both for breakfast as well as for a casual burger dinner one evening. The Lodge is located on an estuary and, as a birder, it was a pleasure to sit on our balcony and watch the birds -- when you could see them for the fog, which was unfortunately with us fairly when we were in the room. The location turned out to be very convenient for us: driving around Bodega Bay was fun (we found that the fog was both unpredictable and uneven, so you can often enjoy birding one side of the bay when the other side is fogged in), the hotel is actually quite close to Sonoma Valley vineyards and it's only a couple of hours from SF Airport. The only downside for us during our stay is that we felt that we were paying a little extra for the spa facilities, which we do not use, but that's our issue, not the hotel's.

This lodge is in the most amazing settling with a beautiful coastline which can become hugged by the fog once it rolls in. Our room was called the 'crows nest' and was so big and so quiet it was a delight. The bathroom had a huge bathtub and separate shower - just amazing accommodation. King size bed with luxurious bedlinen and pillows. We also had a large balcony overlooking the bay but the serenity of the place is firmly held in my memory.

Room Tip: All rooms would be good here! The suite called the 'crows nest' is right at the end of the r...

We stayed three nights and enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and clientele. There was a lot of fog in September '13. The food is very good, service excellent. (a slow breakfast only one day - a cook didn't come in). One massage was excellent, the second just average. We enjoyed talking with other guests in the hot tub and around the outdoor fire pit at night. A good stopover for bicycle riders. Each room has its own outside entrance, hinting of the old motel motif. Nice robes in the room but no valuables safe or tub (very nice walk in shower, tho'). Our room had a working fireplace and ipod player - a plus!

Room Tip: The room in the newer buildings away from the office seemed to have more privacy.
