“unspoiled beauty”

Unspoiled stretch of clean, smooth sand next to dunes. Rock formations at each end. Sounds of seals or sea lions, though we could not see them! Birdwalks very near by.

“A pleasant regional park beach to visit”
Reviewed May 13, 2014

Worth a short visit either to admire the scenery, spot birds or take a walk along the beach. Many people camp or take RVs, but it was a pleasant place of solitude when we came in late April.

“No where near as nice as other area beaches”
Reviewed May 3, 2014

I am shocked, literally, that not only is Doran Beach listed as a top attraction in area, but also that so many vastly superior beaches have no entries at all. Shell Beach is my favorite, hands down, with amazingly beautiful rock formations, tidal pools, a creek, an intimate beach, and shells (of course). Twenty-five years of visiting these beaches hundreds of times and it's not mentioned? I suspect Tripadvisor is not giving good info to tourists; I'm from Sonoma County originally and have been here countless times. Doran Beach? Whatever. Fine. Like a low-rent version of Salmon Creek. The jawdropping beaches are Schoolhouse beach, Portugeuse beach, Shell beach, little turnoffs like Gleason beach, and on up to Goat Rock in Jenner. On Hwy 1 south, Point Reyes is also lovely as are parts of the Marin Headlands. If I knew how to add an entry, I would do so for Shell beach alone, although I admit to liking the relative solitude of the place. Different, but much more impressive.

“Second favorite beach in the area.”
Reviewed April 12, 2014

Doran beach is a wonderful walk from Bodega Bay Lodge, where we were staying. Bird-watching, harbor seals, sandy beach and the ocean. Beaches North of Bodega Bay, such as Salmon Creek, School House, Portuguese beaches are accessed via walkways or paths down cliffs, without ropes or railings....not for cowardly older folks, like us. However, the beach at Goat Rock, where the Russian River enters the Pacific, is huge, glorious, with ample parking. It was the very best beach in Sonoma County, in our experience...highly recommended!! Easy access for elders and kids. Look forward to our return.

“Worth the $7 fee”
Reviewed March 24, 2014

We have been going to Bodega Bay for years. But this weekend was our first time to Doran Beach. Wow have we been missing out. This place is fantastic. We circled a couple times to get a parking space, but once we did we were parked and set up on the beach eating our lunch within 10 minutes. It was all that close. It was nice to relax while my kids played and ran from the ocean and back to us. Lots of people there, but LOTS of space and room that you didn't feel like you were intruding on someone elses area. We will definitely be returning soon.
