“Great long, sandy beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2013

This long stretch of beach is within Doran Regional Park. It is a great beach for families, sandcastle building, and fishing along the jetty.

“Doran Beach - Our favorite camping spot”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 8, 2013

We have camped here at least once a year for many years. It is a favorite of ours but is getting more difficult to camp here as it is always booked up. Beautiful views and beach.

“Fabulous Camping”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 4, 2013

We stayed at Doran Beach/Bodega Bay one night in an RV. We stayed on the dunes backed up to the bay. It was beautiful. There are no site hook ups, but there is a dumping station and potable water. Go for the beauty and the beach! Book way in advance.

“Best Beach in the Area”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

Doran Beach is a Sonoma County Park and is about 40 minutes west of Santa Rosa. It is the best beach for miles because it resembles those beaches in Southern Calif in size and beauty being in a crescent shape. Entrance fee is $8 and there is reserved camping there. There plenty of bathroom facilities and parking but no concession stand for for food, so you have to bring it in from nearby Bodega Bay (where Alfred Hitchcock filmed The Birds). There is fishing and BBQs and on one side is the cold Pacific and the other is a bay. There are no palms though. Weather is what makes this far different than beaches of LA area. Even in the summer, when it is 100F just 30 miles inland, it is only 70F at the beach or less. It still may be foggy even though it is clear right up to 5 miles from the coast. It is NEVER more than 75F there even in the best conditions. Locals always call to the park station there to see what the actual weather conditions are like versus those found online which are usually wrong for Bodega Bay. The water is another difference, all water temps for N. calif beaches are 50-55F all year. There is no warmer ocean except in LA. Thus, there are seldom swimmers staying in the water longer than 10 minutes without a wet suit. At times, there is some small surfing waves. Usually, the beaches are fro running, walking, or playing sand sports. Another larger beach is Stinson Beach, just north of the Golden Gate. His is the size of Manhatten Beach in LA, but the water is freezing and the weather is unpredictable and seldom higher than 70F. So, anywhere along the Northern California coast, take a jacket or sweatshirt in case it is windy and cold. Do not dress like this is a tropical area or even the LA area beaches because you will be disappointed by conditions usually. Doran Beach is a great place, just be prepared and you will be okay.

“very very windy and cold nights but beautiful beach!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 23, 2013

so just came back from one night here.two days.Positives are:5 min.hot shower for $1.50.(quarters only) easy access to beach it is huge and beautiful (awesome for LONG morning walks/runs/jogs,kids playing in sand( best sand for sand castles) ,volleyball games, dogs running around, great for going out on fishing boat to catch crab, and great area for clamming and fishing as well! lots of paths for riding bikes.large fire pits at each campsite. Negatives are: very cold/windy in late afternoons, nights!!! bring lots of warm clothes/hats/gloves.TENTS need to be able to withstand HIGH winds or they will NOT work here.trailers/rv's work the best at this location.I slept in my car,but still cold but warmer then a tent! no hand soap/paper towels/seat covers in bathrooms, faint fog horn goes off every 10sec.(didn't bother me much)
