If you're tent camping, the campground is rough. There's almost no shade, zero privacy, and sites are about ten feet apart. That's probably why 90-percent of the sites were occupied by RV's during my visit last weekend.
Unfortunately I had a tent. On Friday night, the people next to me stayed up until 1:15 a.m. partying and talking in loud voices. The foghorn in the bay would have been a welcome relief compared to those inconsiderate campers. Then they got up at 5:30 a.m. and instead of whispering or talking in low voices, one guy in particular decided everyone else should be awake too.
Second night, same exact thing started happening. Partying, loud voices, bright lantern on the picnic table (all this about ten feet from my tent). Fortunately this time it only lasted until 11 p.m. Sunday night was a lot better. Quieter and less crowded. The partiers had gone home. I figured out that Doran County Park can be a weekend party destination for Bay Area people. There are rules against this, but I saw three cars parked at tiny sites designed for two cars. Quiet hours go ignored. Oh, and to top it off, my firewood was stolen from my campsite during the day while I was gone!
Probably a decent campground if you have an RV and you stop by during the week - but in a tent on a weekend - it's quite noisy and there's no privacy except inside your tent. I wish the rangers or campground hosts would enforce quiet hours (10 pm to 6 am) but they don't.
Oh, and yes, there are showers - one for men and one for women. They're both connected to the restrooms meaning there's a good chance you'll be showering in one stall while someone else is using the bathroom in the stall next to you and you can hear and smell everything.
