First - the managers at the El Rancho - were extremely friendly and curtious. They were great and helpful.
Where do I begin? Here's what we experienced:
Carpet - oh my gosh so dirty and stained we didn't want to walk around without shoes on
one of us had no hot water in the morning - due to guests using their showers
the in-room coffee maker - had to be put on the floor to use - as the outlet was too far down for the cord to reach.
the front door - didn't shut completely - we couldn't use the deadbolt
the bathroom floor had a huge stain in the linoleum - very bad looking stain!
we found out after day 1 - that they don't replace/clean the coffee pot or cups - we were to clean our own cups
there was no blow dryer or iron in the room
had to hold handle down on toilet - as it wouldn't flush properly without holding it down
Mattresses...rates up there as 2 of the worst we've come across
there was no phone in the room

All in all - we'll never stay at the El Rancho again.

I'm very disappointed - as before I made my reservation, I read all the reviews here on TripAdvisor - and they were good, postiive - and put motel in a great light... I even discussed this with the manager! I was just floored when we found out what the motel was really like - so things appear to have changed greatly over time.

We stayed at the El Rancho Motel for one night with another family and had two very different experiences. Although we had reserved two rooms in advance (and our credit card was immediately charged), when we arrived the staff had confused our arrival date and we didn't get the rooms we had reserved. Luckily, there were two rooms available. The room we got was adequate and clean, perfectly fine for a budget motel that served as a stop to our final destination. It's across the road from a trailer park, but was really quiet at night.

However, the room our friends stayed in was awful. It was dirty and reeked of cigarette smoke. The beds hadn't been made and the room was outdated and awful. The staff responded quickly when notified by changing the linens, but the awful smell lingered. We were grateful to have rooms during the high season (most other places had no vacancy) and the staff was courteous, however.

If you stay here, check out the Great Basin Bakery on the corner (thanks TAs for suggesting this). They serve delicious coffee and fresh, innovative baked goods. There isn't much of a sign outside, so it attracts mostly locals, but I highly recommend this place for breakfast.

we were looking for a place to crash after a long hiking weekend in Yosemite. we paid under $50 with the AAA discount. i am pretty snobby but this place had the basics covered. tough to look at at first, but for one night it will do. the carpets are suspect and the bathroom was not cleaned to my satisfaction, but the bed was very comfortable and the noise level was low. recommended to those who can stand a not so perfect room. plenty of towels and a strong shower thought!

We started late driving north on 395 and arrived after the office closed. We called ahead and the owners left our room open for us - very welcoming at the end of a long day. The rooms are small but very clean and comfortable. Beds are wonderful with down comforters and good mattresses. The only downside was having no blackout curtains. Small fridge. Great shower with very hot water. Totally quiet. A good bakery right down the street for breakfast. This motel is a great value.

First time staying at El Rancho. I will be back. Room basic -- which is what I was looking for. Lots of Subaru's in parking area. Room very clean and comfortable. Plenty of soap and shampoo. Staff friendly and professional. Location perfect -- off main street and quiet. Try the bakery down the street, and the real Mexican grocery around the corner -- wonderful products.

The rates were very reasonable. The room was basic but adequate and clean. It had a small fridge and microwave. The service was good. When we asked for extra towels, they arrived immediately. It is conveniently located to restaurants on Main Street. Since it was on a side street, it was away from the traffic of busy Hwy 395. There is a fantastic little bakery down the block-Great Basin Bakery. They had super croissants. The motel is a convenient car ride to many hiking trails in the area.

We stayed at El Rancho multiple times in July and August as we travelled through the Eastern Sierras, including the first night that the new managers took over. They were very professional and went out of their way to help us. El Rancho is priced reasonably and located in a quiet area only two blocks from the main road and a short walk into town. The managers are working hard to make sure that everything is clean and comfortable. There are good breakfast places nearby, including the bakery on Lagoon Street and Jack's on Main Street. It really felt like a home away from home!
