“Burgers and Pies … Oh my!”
Reviewed September 29, 2012

This place is something of a local legend for their amazing pies. Part of the Rock Creek Lakes Resort, it’s part tackle shop, convenience store, rental center and café. The café portion is decidedly modest – a few stools at the counter and a few picnic tables on the outdoor deck. Open for breakfast and lunch, the café offers a very simple and limited menu. But what they do offer they execute well.

They have several burgers (including salmon) that are plump and juicy. And the pies … wow! You can get large, home-made slices of both cream and fruit pies that are absolutely heavenly. To experience the whole selection of pies you have to get there early – they start serving pie at 10:30 a.m. and typically run out of most flavors by mid-afternoon.

To get to the Rock Creek Lakes Resort, you will need to take US 395 to the Tom’s Place exit (about 14 miles south of Mammoth Lakes and about 25 miles north of Bishop). From the exit go straight along Rock Creek Road for a few miles; the Resort will be on your right.

So if you woke up early for a day of fishing or hiking in the Eastern Sierras, you should reward yourself with a burger and a slice of pie from the Pie in the Sky Café – it’s a treat, indeed!
