“Campy Vibes at a great price”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2012

We booked a one bedroom cabin for a two night mid-week mini-getaway and the Timberline Lodge fit the bill for what we were looking for. The property is on the older end (aka the same age as most cabin properties in the area) but fits the funky, campy Big Bear Lake vibe nicely. It was great to have a separated living room, bedroom, and kitchen at a price that would usually score you a modest motel room.
The small unit came with a fireplace, a kitchen equipped with everything you would need to use it, free wifi, a small sofa couch that turned into a twin bed, a tiny television and VCR, and was furnished with a bunch of weird old decorations. The heater was in the living room but close enough to the bedroom to heat that up as well. Hot water took a bit to get to the room but it lasted as long as we needed. Firewood was pay-as-you-go and enough was in the room to last you all night.
Service at the front desk was only during the day, but they had lots of free 'whoops I forgot that' items available and an entertaining selection of VHS tapes. Service was casual yet attentive, which once again fits the campy mountain vibe that we were looking for during our short stay.
As others have said, if you are the type who lives in the lap of luxury and expects a sterile room that looks like it has never been used, you will want to steer clear of this, as well as most other cabin properties in Big Bear. We felt like we were staying in a relatives cottage or something like that, and for the price we paid, it was certainly a nice little treat. We will return when visiting Big Bear.

Room Tip: Front desk will honor price-match. Check the hotel website for specific room details, you can previe...

Very disappointing. The price was great, the host was excellent, but that's where it ends. We stayed in cabin #15. The room has very stained carpeting, poorly maintained and barely clean.. The pool is only seasonal. The thing that shocked us the most here was there is no closet, just some hooks behind the bathroom door.

Room Tip: Get a Cabin as far back as possible from the highway. The Frontier, where we stayed the night befor...

On Big Bear Blvd so noise of cars kept us up all night as windows were not double pane. Old appliances and old furniture.
No central heating so bedrooms were very cold.
Location is great and very friendly staff. Will not come back.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 2 queen bed cabin. The location is great and the staff really nice but the cabin itself needs upgrading badly. The furniture is old and dated and really let down. The VCR didn't work but we never got around to asking to get it fixed (I'm sure they would have if we asked). The decorations were dusty and old and I don't know when the bedspread was last washed. The beds were comfortable and the size of the cabin very nice. The heating worked great. The kitchen was cozy but they could have seriously replaced the placemat - it was falling apart. That isn't very expensive to replace! Free shampoo and soap in the bathroom as well as dishes in the kitchen. Overall, I'd recommend this to you if you don't spend too much time inside and don't mind some scruffiness. The rate was exceptional though, and the management terrific!

Awesome experience both times we've stayed. If you are expecting the Ritz Carlton stay home. For those of you who are down to earth and want a campy hideaway from your every day life then go see Fendi at Timberline. The price was right. The hospitality was amazing and the location unmatched. We love it there.

Room Tip: Really be clear when you book so they understand what you are looking for.

Went with my Wife, grandma and 2 kids. Loved the playarea for the kids.

Cabins are nice, good beds and hot water. Well equipped kitchen, what else to want?

Staff was also very professional.

Wow, $ 513.72 for my sister, niece and boyfriend on Presidents Holiday weekend (3 night stay). What a "Great Value"! The beds were very soft and comfortable (2 queens and 2 singles), and it was nice having extra blankets on the clean sheets and bed spreads. In addition to having close and convient parking we enjoyed FREE WiFi, which was included with the room rate (no nickle & diming here). If we needed extra blanks, coffee, or TP, we simply left a note or called the front desk and they were more than happy to fulfill out requests. Our room had two heaters that kept us toasty and made it very cozy after skiing all day. The previous week's winter storm dropped over 18 inches of snow which made out mountain experience all the more enjoyable and memorable. This was our second winter stay and we look forward to our next stay. Thank you Fendi & staff!

Room Tip: So it does not have flat screen tv's, DVD players, room service or telephones...IT'S A LODGE...
