“Big Bear Gourmet, Who Knew?”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

We had no expectation of finding a fine dining restaurant in Big Bear, so we were very happy to discover Sweet Basil Bistro. She won't win any Michelin stars, but Sally's plates are creative and satisfying. Try the Braccilone - breaded flank steak stuffed with roasted tomatoes and Gorgonzola over linguine with tomato basil sauce. I usually avoid anything "breaded", but my wife ordered this and it was truly outstanding. Their specialty cocktails were also a pleasant surprise.

“Fabulous Modern Italian”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2013 via mobile

By far the best meal we had while in Big Bear for 4 days in September. This attractive small restaurant (seats about 40) is situated below a bowling alley just adjacent to the downtown. We started with salads - he had the Cesar which he said was one of the best he'd had, with a delicate balance between lemon and garlic, and with a generous quantity of fresh shaved Parmesan. I had the Mista, which was a delightful mix of fresh greens (beet, arugula, red lettuce, etc) with a pleasant balsamic dressing, all sprinkled with chopped pistachios.

His main was the Italian meatloaf, which came with grilled broccoli and choice of garlic mashed, which he had, or orzo. It was very good. I opted for a build-your-own pasta, choosing orrichete from a selection of pasta choices, a Gorgonzola cream sauce with roasted tomato sauce from several sauce choices, and grilled salmon as an add-on (could have had shrimp, meatballs or sausage as well). It was a a great combo; an enormous bowl of pasta in flavourful sauce, with nicely grilled salmon - I could only eat about half if it.

Along with a couple of wines by the glass which nicely matched our meals, we enjoyed a great meal on our last night in Big Bear Lake.

Had our 49th aniversary dinner here. The food was excellent, the staff very nice and the prices are not outragrous. A nice romantic atmosphere.

“Huge plates of pasta”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2013

We ate here twice during our visit to Big Bear Lake. Good drinks, good salads, good service. Entrees were excellent. My wife raved about her filet, cooked exactly the way she ordered it (extremely rare). Same on the second visit, when she ordered the flank steak. Pastas were also excellent, and the portions are ample. The place is a little small and it gets warm when it gets crowded, but overall we had good experiences.

“A gem of a restaurant in BigBear”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 31, 2013

My wife and I had another great dinner at SBB last Sunday night. We shared a light dinner of Garlic Fritters (a unique variation on garlic bread), Portabello Mushroom & Artichoke Salad and the night's Pizza Special. This is a gem destination for fine food in Big Bear! Our 2nd visit and will be coming back!
