We stayed at Bear Creek before, #2, but this time we stayed in #20. It's a 2 bedroom,1 bath, a living with fireplace and full mini kitchen. Most cabins have be renovated and accommodations are acceptable. It was fairly clean, heater working well and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was basic but the shower was super small and dark. The best thing is that the cabin stands all by itself, no wall sharing. The cabin is great for large parties because you can make your own meals. There is a restaurant and bakery right across the street. I would return if I can get a better price (~$125-135).

We stayed for one night in their two-bedroom, one bath cabin. The cabin was clean and comfortable--could have done without the painted on snow scenes on the walls but otherwise more updated than pictures we saw from other cabins in the area. The shower head was kind of low and the shower water pressure was also a bit low, but that would really be the only negative. It was the perfect location. Don't forget to bring paper towels! :)

Room Tip: We stayed in cabin 12 and would definitely stay there again. The mexican restaurant across the stre...

We had a lovely cabin that was hand-painted with pine trees, and set with retro bear pictures on the inside. Outside was a porch chair, and if it was above 19 degrees in the evening, it would have made for a delightful place to sit and think about the world. Our cabin had cable, a nice fridge and range, coffee maker and hot chocolate. Breakfast was included with the room. We thought that was a nice touch.
The challenges we encountered were few - but they really did take this a notch down as an experience for us. The thermostat in our room didn't work - it was almost 70 degrees in the place the entire time. I don't mind a little heat, but when it's 9 degrees overnight, you may want to lower the thermo. No wifi was a big one. We had planned to spend our evening online, and had picked a place with this amenity on purpose. In the lobby, we found a sign directing us to a few places - Mc Donald's, anyone? - a few miles away that had wifi. Um, no. And then there was the phone. We discovered it didn't work when we got a random call after 10 pm, but we were unable to answer the phone, or call out ourselves. Add in a lumpy bed, and you can see that these things are minor, but definitely lower our rating.

Room Tip: If you have a choice, you might try to find one without a kichenette. Think about it...warm interio...

Well kept up place overall, the grounds were well maintained. With so many hotels in resort towns, you have to expect hotels to be older in general. Our room was small but was nice to have a little kitchen/dining area. The front porch was nice too to sit and have a cup of coffee. We did hear traffic noises from busy street since we kept the windows open for the mountain cool air. I could see someone complain about being hot in the summer, but we got great late summer weather. Would definitely stay here again. Grocery store and bakery across the street. Restaurants and the Village are just a few minutes ago. We loved the Peppercorn Restaurant. We saw a lot of different other hotels from the road, but this one definitely looked well cared for in comparison.

We visited Big Bear for the Tour de Big Bear bike ride. We did a lot of research on the hotels/resorts in the area and came across some frightening reviews. Issues of being dirty, bugs, etc., but thank goodness we found Bear Creek Resort! It was listed as a recommended resort for the race so we took a shot and were very happy with what we found. We stayed in one of the studios and it was perfect for our needs. Little kitchen with everything you could think of including dishes, utensils and dish soap for easy clean up. The bathroom and bed linens were clean and the bed was so cozy! Though there is no AC, they had already supplied the room with a standing electric fan which was just right for us. We wouldn't take a chance and stay anywhere else!

The little cabins are attractive. The woodburning fireplace is quaint. Hmmmmm...trying to think of something else positive to say. The front desk staff was friendly.

All right, so, the negative. Right ON the street. It's not a quiet oasis. I was in a cabin directly across the pool. My neighbors were rude and did not respect the pool hours. It would be nice if they locked the pool or turned off the lights or something to deter the noise of disrespectful guests. Shower was moldy and the grout was dark stained from the dirt.

Will NOT stay here again. When I come to the mountains I want quiet and trees...not street noise.

Room Tip: Do NOT stay next to the pool. Random local people drive off the street and use the pool. Kind of g...
