My family and overseas relatives were really looking forward to staying at the Marina Resort, our very first time here and at Big Bear. I booked our reservations (2 double rooms) through Expedia (our first time using it). However due to the approaching storm, the worst in the last 6 years, and not knowing if we would be able to make it back on time for our relatives to catch their return flights home, we were forced to cancel. We spoke with Angelina at the hotel and Expedia did too, trying to get them to refund us the full amount, but to no avail. They said we would have to pay 1 night for each room. We understand they have policies and regulations, but when special circumstances occur, travelers like us would appreciate a little flexibility and understanding. We cannot rate this property since we did not have a chance to stay there, but would think twice about booking a reservation, knowing that procedures and business as usual come ahead of special circumstances or emergencies.

Myriam,
Thank you for your review. We do understand that unforeseen circumstances can take place; however, when a reservation is canceled outside of the cancellation time period we do charge for the first nights stay which is clearly stated in our policy. We are a mountain community that frequently experiences inclement weather, and we cannot change our policy every time there is an impending storm since many people would take advantage of such a loop hole when it is clearly not necessary. We are sorry to hear that you chose to cancel your trip in order to avoid possibly canceling a flight, but we cannot be responsible for succinct itineraries or how they may be affected by weather patterns.

Traveled to Big Bear with my family - husband and 3 kids (1, 6 and 9) to get away celebrate the new year in the snow. The hotel has a great location on the lake and very near the Village downtown. That's the main reason I gave this property 4 stars. I would not however call it a resort - there is no restaurant, bar or salon services on site. It is a nice motel type lodge. We shared a room with two double beds and it was a tight fit. Rooms have a refrigerator which is nice but they should add microwaves. Also very limited storage space - they should get rid of the desk and add a chest of drawers. Walls are thin so you can hear the neighbors. Bathroom was small but clean and there were plenty of towels. Maid service was great- early, friendly and efficient. The groundskeeper was nice too - he had to keep reminding folks from the park adjacent to the hotel to stay off the private property. That was nice of him since we paid a pretty high premium to have private and safe sledding area for the kids. We never had to leave the property- kids sleighed and built snowmen in the fresh snow and we only left for meals. Property also has a pretty nice playground for little ones! It was so much fun! Next time, since we will return, I'll book the room with the full kitchen. Complimentary coffee all day which in the snowy weather is a nice touch. Free wifi too.

As we leaving today the great view that this hotel has to offer, we are leaving happy to say that this establishment will see me more often since the bed is comfy and the room overall has what we needed. Clean atmosphere and nice people greeting guest inside the lobby. :)

I took my teens and their friend to Big Bear for a quick getaway -- 2 days, one night. We found the Marina Resort online and got an excellent rate. Check-in was smooth and easy, the lodge was great (fireplace and cozy couches), and our room was close by and clean and cute. The beds and pillows were super comfortable, and four of us slept very comfortably. We will be back!
