I've been traveling up the hill for experiances I can't find in the flat lands. Madlon's is everything I hoped it would be and more. A fine dining taste with a comfortable atmosphere. Madlon's is my new dining choice on the hill.

We must not have been going to the same restaurant as everyone else. We live here and eat at Madlons a couple times a month. Up until recently the place has been very good by Big Bear standards. But, something has changed. The quality doesn't seem to be as good as it used to be. The staff is still attentive and helpful, but the kitchen speed and output quality is suffering. Cold food is another complaint we have. Our favorite Jalapeno soup was separating when it was delivered. We almost always have the Apricot Chicken and Filet Mignon. Chicken was alright, but the steak was overcooked and lacked some flavoring it used to have. We aren't sure what's going on with Madlons but we hope someone fixes it quick.

This quiet and serene place is nothing short of amazing. The exterior reminds you of a little cottage in the European Black Forest. Inside it's tastefully appointed with big comfortable booths and smaller cafe style tables. Madlon's has great food at a good price. It serves some of the most inventive and inviting menu items I've ever seen. They excelled in providing prompt and friendly service, that's something that we not always experience when dining in the Big Bear Lake area.

Last September, we flew into the airport from Las Vegas while on the way to Orange County Airport. They are about 2 blocks from the airport on the highway which made for a light easy walk to and from.

For our lunch we split a great chopped salad and croissant sandwiches. I did get a glance of their dinner menue and all I can say is wow. If they put the same effort and quality into their dinners as they do for lunch this place rocks. We are going to have to come back for dinner in the future,

PS. I loved their iced tea, it wasn't instant or machine mixed like most restaurants now a days. It had to be sun brewed, which is the best way to make tea.

We think fondly of our visits to Madlons, and consider it a treat to include in our annual visits to the area. It is a delightful quaint restaurant worthy of an excellent review for Big Bear. There are not a lot of delicious restaurants in Big Bear, but this place is! Madlon knows how to do an incredible filet mignon, which she claims is flown in from Chicago (or, some other large city?). We usually reserve our visits to Madlon's free from our children. Because it is one of the few nicer restaurants in Big Bear, I would recommend leaving the kids with the baby sitter out of consideration for other patrons. But if you have daughters (with quiet voices), you might feel more comfortable taking them.

A WONDERFUL RESTAURANT IN BIG BEAR, CA
On a recent anniversary weekend in Big Bear, CA, we had a wonderful dinner at Madlon’s. The restaurant was tiny – maybe 10 tables – and from the outside it reminded us of an elf’s cottage in a fairy tale. Inside, it was tastefully decorated. We told our server we were just imagining how beautiful it would look during the Christmas holidays and she said about 20 people spend hours decorating it, so we think it will be worth another trip to see that. It was difficult to choose from the nice variety of foods on the menu, and the food was beautifully served and delicious. When they found out it was our anniversary weekend, they sprinkled silver confetti on our table and brought a delicious ice cream sundae. The staff was very courteous, friendly and professional. We highly recommend Madlon’s!
