The one saving grace of this hotel is the breakfast- The restaurant itself is a great design with huge windows looking out onto the street and outdoor seating- the service was attentive and helpful without rushing and the food was great- we ordered the French Toast and Eggs Benedict- both were fantastic and set us up for the day. Would love to have eaten there again, but no time on this trip.

On the basis this is a very famous high end hotel in just about the worlds most exclusive location I feel justified in having high expectations.

However the food was at best passable and in the case of one of our dishes very poor as it was loaded with so much salt as to make it virtually inedible. I appreciate this is not the hotels main restaurant but still!
However when we complained the staff couldn't have been more accommodating and deducted the dish from the bill (expected) plus didn't charge for a glass of champagne (nice touch).

The people that set up this place is top notch. But I don't know who is managing the daily operations of the place. When there is more than half a room of customers, the entire staff scrambles all over the place looking very busy, but never efficiently. Waiting forever for someone to take your order seems like a rookie mistake, not one at a 5 star place. Having bread show up after everything else seems a little strange. Waiting forever for you check is also frustrating. As the army of staff dash around, no one actually tries to establish eye contact, or ask if anything is needed.

Hey, but the food is great!

Sure, it's in one of LA's historic hotels and sure, it's in the middle of Beverly Hills but shouldn't that make it even BETTER? It's good but not superb or even great. Our waiter was friendly but didn't have a great grasp of the entrees -- couldn't explain them. She did recommend a tuna entree, which unfortunately, despite asking for it to be seared only, came out well done. Each filet was only about 3/4 inch thick and was severely overcooked. Other than that, the entrees were good (but not great). Dessert presentation of samplers looked amazing but again was just ok. Nothing spectacular. Clearly they have a captive market (hotel guests who don't want to venture far) so they don't have to go over the top and don't mind spending $40 for an average entree.

On the upside, the space is impressive and the live music rocked some pop favorites-- with even a few guests dancing. Solid "B" ....but I expected more! ;(
