“Predictably delicious prime rib - melts with juicy tenderness! Get the complimentary Lawry's rewards card.”
Reviewed July 27, 2013 via mobile

Finally came here (to the famous Beverly Hills location) for a group dinner birthday celebration! I had only been to each of Lawry's associate family restaurants prior: Tam O'Shanterns, Lawry's in South Coast Plaza (OC), and Five Crowns in CdM.

Inside was huge, traditional old fashioned, with high vaulted ceilings, large bar area, open dining room area! I knew it was going to be a delicious dinner, since I LUV prime rib - from the other Lawry's affiliates...

I ordered my prime rib medium rare, cooked to tender perfection. The deliciously fresh warm bread, humongous sides (yummy creamy mashed potato, cream of corn, sauteed mushrooms, cream of spinach) to share, the wine bottle selections were each fantastic. Service was super friendly.

Everyone on our large group (of 8) was full, content, and happily excited about their food! Our pricey bill was to be expected with a larger group, wine bottles, cocktails, and prime ribs. Tip: Get a Lawry's card for dining reward credits.

They brought out dessert for our birthday boy, of course. Valet parking only. I'm not sure about the metered street parking on La Cienega?

Too fun, memorable times, STELLAR tasty perfectly ordered prime rib, with tasty accompaniments... What else can you ask for?

“Factory feeling - "have it our way"”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Perhaps we did not have the best waiter for our table of 10 -- "how many want the special menu? - raise hands"..."how many want seafood? raise hands". This was not an appealing fine dining experience in this price range. We were also told that the fish came with vegetables and mashed potatoes - can we leave off the potatoes and just get veggies? we asked. Well you can leave off the potatoes but we don't give extra veggies. "that's how we do it - no substitutions". The food was very good but the waiter dampened things a lot. Its a frenetic room with (literally) busses of tourists pouring in. The spinning salad bowl is their "thing" but its really way over dressed - can we get it lightly dressed? we asked...nope they make one bowl for the table and its all the same. Valet parking was efficient and always welcome.

“Not Enough Superlatives”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

OK, so their reputation preceeds, and it's all true. There is an annual "Dine LA" event, which helped a bit with the prices, and prompted us to give it a try.
As the wonderful waitress, Ms. Dwyer, ASK for HER, said; many people fast all day before dining here. Great advice. LARGE servings, however the all around exceptionally welcoming staff, were right out there with offering Take-Home boxes.
We went with the house wine, an attempt to hold down the cost. A Merlot, which we enjoyed.
BUT the real point is the Prime RIb, which came with the excellent house salad, really good mashed potatoes AND lobster, PLUS desert. OMG.
The atmosphere is wonderfully traditional. There were obvious known repeat customers. The mobile carving stations date from 1930's, and 2 of the original are still in service.
This is the original location. We highly recommend.

“overrated - a factory of insincerity and delusions of grandeur”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

I'll keep this as brief as i can
the good: The food was definitely passable, the waiter was I'm sure a lovely guy and was as attentive as he could be despite being pillar to post.

the bad: everything every staff member said to us was scripted and there was a sneaky upsell from when we ordered the wine (trained to assume we wanted a flight? I wanted Pinot Noir but it took an assertive comment from myself to get it instead of a selection of three wines) to when we picked our car up from the valet and the frankly rude woman who seemed to be some sort of manager who told us how much we had to tip.

The food, as I said, was ok. Prime rib is a solid bet. However, having spent as much here as we would at a restaurant in london called Hawksmoor I have to compare the two, and yet they aren't comparable. Hawksmoor is a shrine to amazing food drink, service and good times. This place is an obesity factory which must make excellent margins.

the problem with lawry's goes further than that. the horribly tacky decor, the insincere service, the HORRIBLE manager who destroyed the experience at the end with her abrasive personality, the flocks of obese american families who surrounded us and the feeling that the entire establishment was more about ruthlessly cutting costs and increasing profits rather than delivering excellent food and service added up to the place being a metaphor for everything that we dislike about this country. Don't get me wrong, there is plenty to love about the USA but this place has none of that, and all of the bad bits.

Very rare for me to give a bad review but I have to make an exception here. Extremely disappointed.

“Amazing prime rib...”
Reviewed July 7, 2013

First-time there on my son's recommendation and one of the best prime rib dinners we've ever had! Quite entertaining to have it carved on a cart and served right by your table. Beyond the included mashed potatoes (with really good gravy), added a couple of veggie sides (fresh and generous), plus a round of fabulous desserts for all, and we all waddled out beaming from ear to ear!
