Just tried some macarons at 'lette in Newport Beach, CA. We love the macarons at both Laduree and Le Notre in Paris, also at department stores in London. But these do not have the true, intense flavors and the ganache that holds them together doesn't match each flavor as it does in Europe. Over there they are kept in refrigerated cases and can not be shipped, so they are not really made of the same ingredients. Also, desserts in France are rarely as sweet as in the USA.
I do hate to say all this as I realize that not everyone can get over there but you could not buy clothes, sodas, movie tickets, fancy cosmetics, etc. and save up for a bargain winter ticket to Paris and find out the difference for yourself.
