Honestly, I've been delaying writing this review of The Avalon in Beverly Hills. I really didn't want to let people know how much myself and my bf LOVE this haven of kitsch cool that we stumbled upon accidentally after reading a feature about it in a UK style magazine that I picked up at Heathrow. And though it pains me to share our good fortune in finding this place, sharing our joy seems like the right thing to do.
We actually had another hotel booked for our 5 day trip to LA en route to New York but decided to swing by on our way from LAX, just to check it out in person. As soon as I walked in, I was hooked and not just by the totally fabulous 50's decor but by the completely charming and affable Alessandro at the front desk. They were busy but managed to show us three rooms that we could choose from, of varying sizes but all equally cute. We took 319, cancelled our other reservation and nestled in for our stay.
Breakfast at The Avalon is riot thanks to Jason. He is utterly attentive and serves up an awesome brekkie with a healthy dose of humour and as we say in Ireland, a bit of mick-taking. You really can't beat sitting by the figure of 8 swimming pool, opposite the gorgeous poolside cabanas, having a great breakfast and a good laugh. It has a home from home feel which I think is a rare find in any hotel in any city, let alone somewhere like Los Angeles.
And really, that's the crux of what makes this place such a gem. Once you walk through the door, the traffic noise on Beverly Drive and the busyness of LA in general seems to simply evaporate and you're 'home'....
The staff are all phenomenal. In fact, I hesitate to even refer to them as such because honestly it feels like it's their 'place' and you're lucky enough to be invited over to hang out, be looked after superbly and just have a great LA experience. We can't thank them (Jeremy, Tesla, Aaron, Diego, Amber, Martin, Israel and Ferenc) enough for being so fabulous to us and now, for us, our LA trips will always include a stay here at The Avalon.
Oh and we got two hugs on the way out and you certainly don't get that everywhere!
