I love the look and feel of this hotel. Has a cool retro look with a Hollywood feel. The staff is fantastic and helpful. Stayed in a regular room in the main building. Good size room. Close to restaurants and shopping.

We stayed at the Avalon for one night. Our room number was 440.
Thank you to the staff who was very nice and helpful.
The hotel is located about 10 mins from Beverly Hills and has a very nice bar restaurant area.
Once you've seen Beverly Hills the Hollywood area is about 15 mins drive at the weekend.
We had a meal at the restaurant. The food was very good but be aware that if you substitute one item of the side dishes you will only get the substitution vegetable.
We wanted to substitute artichoke for asparagus but in the end the potatoes that came with the fish at first had also been taken off the plate.
Except for that the place has a great atmosphere.
The window in our room that, by the way is across the street from the main building, didn't close very well.

Stayed in the Junior Suite for 3 nights which is decorated beautifully, as expected. I chose this hotel only because Kelly Wearstler had designed it. The room was facing another room but had a big tree in the way, wasn't ideal - I expected a bit more when it came to a suite but the interior made it worth it. The breakfast was pretty good, the restaurant gets busy, especially given its size. The one downside of this hotel, is the pool area is right next to the restaurant, which makes it nice for people visiting but not ideal for people staying at the hotel and wanting some peace and quiet around the pool area. That's probably not going to happen. Overall the hotel is not very big, and the suites are over the road, so you are not connected to the main hotel area. The location is okay, if you have a car (which we did) but wouldn't stay without a car. Generally the hotel is enjoyable if you are the sort of person who likes to be surrounded by nice decor and out and about most of the day.....

Apparently this hotel used to be a senior home and has been transformed into a chic boutique hotel near the main part of town. Now I understand this is a bit of a trend or shall I say creative way to update space. Hasn't happened here on the East Coast yet but in California I was digging it - splendid service, a nice pool, good food, eclectic rooms which were also spacious. A bit hard to see the sign out front since the immediate area was residential but the considerate Starbuck's gift card was a nice touch upon arrival. Best part; I felt trendy yet under the radar, and without pretense in the same stay.

A very pretty hotel with great service and good food. Make sure you request a room with a view of the pool. I didn't think to and ended up having to travel across a dubious alley way to another building that had a view of the road. Otherwise, a lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view of the pool and don't book if you can't get it.

I stayed a week at the Avalon Hotel this past winter. I hate Beverly Hills so would probably not stay here again, but if you like the location it's a great boutique hotel. The service was above and beyond from the front of house staff to the restaurant staff, they were amazing. The rooms are small but have big windows and get nice light, the beds are relatively comfortable and amenities are fine. The real draw is the pool, a nice place to have lunch and work in the afternoon sun. They have a better than average hotel gym. Little things would be nice, like complementary tea and coffee service. I paid $5 for the worst cup of tea of my life. But other than that no complaints.

Some reviewers have said this hotel is out of the way, which I didn't find to be true. There is a strip of restaurants just around the corner and it's an easy drive or bus ride to West Hollywood. But there is certainly no party scene at the Avalon, though they say there may have been back in the day, the day being the '50s.

Dear Tressa90,

Thank you for posting this review and share your experience of the Avalon Hotel.

The team and I were incredibly proud when reading your kind comments about the service you enjoyed throughout your stay with us. I was however disappointed to learn that you did not enjoy the tea you were served in our restaurant and I wish to extend a sincere apology for not meeting your expectations in this regard.

I was glad to note that you had taken the opportunity to explore Beverly Drive with all its boutiques, restaurants, and cafes and that you found the drive or bus ride to West Hollywood to be easy and convenient.

On behalf of all of us here at the Avalon, thank you for staying with us and for taking the time to share your experience.

This hotel is a great find. Very clean, great food and the ambience takes you back to the 50's. I cannot speak highly enough of the gracious and hospitable staff. From the valets to the front desk staff, these people are warm, polished and make you feel like you are the only guest at the hotel. In a beautiful neighborhood, and can walk to Rodeo Drive.

Room Tip: Ask for the second floor, a way from the alley and cars being parked by valet.
