We only got to stay here one night and wished it could have been more. The two person cottage we booked was very comfortable with a nice verandah. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We had dinner at the restaurant - huge meals and absolutely delicious with a nice selection of wines to choose from.

Stayed 2 nights last week in the comfortable cabins. Cabins are self catering and set out around the property in groups of 3. A few stand alone. Location next door to platypus viewing platform and several walking tracks. We went spotlighting and on a bird watching walk (included in tarriff) as well as being dropped off for the one way walk back to the resort. Some walks remained closed due to cyclone damage and staff advised us of this. Cabins were clean and comfortable. We had a fire with plenty of firewood which was replenished daily. The on site restaurant served very high quality food. This is a wonderful place to get away from it all and see the platypus.

We got the last room in this great resort, about 80km outside of Mackay. The drive through Pioneer Valley was worth it. The Resort is like a little village with several houses scattered everywhere, there's even a little chapel there. The inn keepers are very friendly and helpful, informed us about the best walking trails and when and where to see the platypus. The rooms are very Australian, with a kitchenette, a big fridge and a large bathroom. We had a double room but it could have hosted up to four, there was a second storey, like a gallery. In front of the room we had a veranda where we had breakfast and enjoyed the view out in to the rainforest and watched the brush turkeys pottering around. Around the resort there is not a lot else, so we decided to have dinner there and were not at all disappointed. A great buffet with a wide variety of food was just the thing we needed. Afterwards we relaxed with a drink in the common area, where you can sit and read, play games or just dream of all the platypus you've seen.

We can definitely recommend this hotel. Go there and enjoy.

We were shown this place by some local friends, one of which has travelled the world many times and describes the area as his most favourite place on the planet... when we got there we could see why.
We spent hours walking through the forest, spotting animals in their natural habitat and then returned for a great meal and a chance to see the possums from the back porch of the restaurant.
The lady who runs the place is very friendly and you get the warm feeling you are being invited into her home, which is a lovely personal touch.
The cabins were spacious and very clean, and our only disappointment was that the weather was too warm to light the log burners, as we love a roaring fire!
You can't fail but to relax and enjoy this place, it's really very special.

Great location for outdoor activities and, of course, platypus spotting. Complimentary night walks (twice a week, highly recommended), as well as drop off at trail heads, where you can walk back to the resort.
Extremely friendly staff, in-room facilities for self caterers, as well as free use of washing and drying machines. Games and books in the lounge. Restaurant available.

Broken River is a very unique place. The compound of numerous buildings sits above the Broken River next to great Platypus viewing locations. The resort also will drop you at the end of some nice hiking trails. You can also sign up for guided nature walks that are great.

The onsite restaurant serves excellent food. We ate there both nights (as there is not a lot else going on in Eungella) and enjoyed both meals immensely.

The room itself was basic but in good condition. In addition to a queen sized bed there was a type of sleeping loft over the bathroom that could have fit one or two more people. The room had a refrigerator and a microwave as well as a kitchen-type sink. There was a nice private deck for the unit as well.

The one caution I have is that a lot of groups seem to use the resort. Family reunions, especially. It can seem like the place is overrun by these groups and we had to plan dinner around one of them one night. It really didn't affect our stay, but it is something to be aware of.

This place is actually called a retreat which is what it is. It is a place to get back to nature. The cabins are rustic so they blend in with the surroundings. I stayed in the Echidna accomodation which was one room with a kitchenette and bathroom. There is a shuttle available to a couple of the trailheads located in Eungella National Park. The noctural wildlife viewing was wonderful. The restaurant has fabulous food. The staff were helpful. I can't wait to go back.
