“A tranquil paradise”
Reviewed March 10, 2010

We were shown this place by some local friends, one of which has travelled the world many times and describes the area as his most favourite place on the planet... when we got there we could see why.
We spent hours walking through the forest, spotting animals in their natural habitat and then returned for a great meal and a chance to see the possums from the back porch of the restaurant.
The lady who runs the place is very friendly and you get the warm feeling you are being invited into her home, which is a lovely personal touch.
The cabins were spacious and very clean, and our only disappointment was that the weather was too warm to light the log burners, as we love a roaring fire!
You can't fail but to relax and enjoy this place, it's really very special.

Great location for outdoor activities and, of course, platypus spotting. Complimentary night walks (twice a week, highly recommended), as well as drop off at trail heads, where you can walk back to the resort.
Extremely friendly staff, in-room facilities for self caterers, as well as free use of washing and drying machines. Games and books in the lounge. Restaurant available.

Broken River is a very unique place. The compound of numerous buildings sits above the Broken River next to great Platypus viewing locations. The resort also will drop you at the end of some nice hiking trails. You can also sign up for guided nature walks that are great.

The onsite restaurant serves excellent food. We ate there both nights (as there is not a lot else going on in Eungella) and enjoyed both meals immensely.

The room itself was basic but in good condition. In addition to a queen sized bed there was a type of sleeping loft over the bathroom that could have fit one or two more people. The room had a refrigerator and a microwave as well as a kitchen-type sink. There was a nice private deck for the unit as well.

The one caution I have is that a lot of groups seem to use the resort. Family reunions, especially. It can seem like the place is overrun by these groups and we had to plan dinner around one of them one night. It really didn't affect our stay, but it is something to be aware of.

This place is actually called a retreat which is what it is. It is a place to get back to nature. The cabins are rustic so they blend in with the surroundings. I stayed in the Echidna accomodation which was one room with a kitchenette and bathroom. There is a shuttle available to a couple of the trailheads located in Eungella National Park. The noctural wildlife viewing was wonderful. The restaurant has fabulous food. The staff were helpful. I can't wait to go back.

Worth the drive up the mountain. The units are a little tired looking, but you could use the word 'rustic' as they blend in with the location. Food was excellent in the restaurant, which is good news since you are a captive audience if you don't want to self-cater. Staff were friendly and helpful and there was a good choice of self-guided and staff guided tours and walks. We were fortunate enough to see platypus swimming in the river at dusk and its a great spot for bird watchers.

We are really glad we made the detour to the Broken River Resort. We stayed in a 2 bedroom cabin, that was a bit worn, but it was clean and it had everything we needed.
The location is great, near the river with platypus, turtles, water snakes and azure kingfishers.
Reception was friendly and the restaurant was very good.
We also did the 8 km river walk and loved it.
Not the place to go if you want to bathe in luxury, but great to see some wildlife in beautiful surroundings.

The location of the resort was ideal with great walks and views of the platypus in the morning and evening within easy reach of the lodges.. The chalets were clean but tired. They are well stock with cooking utensils for self catering. There was a team building conference in progress using the lawn outside the chalets for 'games' so not much privacy. The food was adequate but the breakfast was overpriced. The receptionist was rather offhand and not very helpful. The evening guided walk around the grounds was very interesting to see the nocturnal animals, especially the carpet snake nicknamed Axminster!
