We were fortunate to stay during a half price deal, but that didn't give us cut-rate service. Our room had a great view. We were able to arrange for a late check out. We were unable to dine at either restaurant because we had other plans, but the menus for both looked wonderful. We quite enjoyed lounging by the pool. It is centrally located and within walking distance of many places.

My stay at the Claremont Hotel was stupendous. We enjoyed it immensely. Every single staff member went out of his or her way to help me. For a little more $, we got the larger room. It was very fresh-smelling, had windows that opened, had great A/C, and we slept like logs because: 1) We could not hear ANY external noise! 2) The room darkening curtains were great. The room facilities are not modern, but make up for that in spades with consummate charm, history, culture, beauty - and soul. We lunched on the terrace of the Paragon Restaurant under the umbrellas with a gorgeous panorama view of the Bay Area; the food and service were stupendous. (Try the ginger-mint-lime drink!) The Spa - OMG - a deluge shower - really!? It was fabulous. The view from the ladies' Spa whirlpool was magnificent. And the pool? We happened upon and unusual heat wave - and spent as much time as possible at the beautiful, very large, WARM water pool - laying on our loungers, with views of the beautiful Berkeley Hills in the background. The salmon sandwiches, the French Fries, and a little fresh mozzarella-basil-tomato salad were DELICIOUS from the pool cafe. The pool area had several pools and both the Club (pool area) and the Spa were very modern and state of the art. I took a great Spin class - there are classes all day long. Never made it to Pilates class, because I was too RELAXED! We loved wandering the hotel and seeing all the historic photos and write-ups on the wlals. My favorite spot was the Northside of the main lobby floor - there's a lovely room with four chairs in a big circle and a high ceilinged opening to a large terrace - I could have sat there for a week and chatted with the folks and read my books. Make that a lifetime...! I graduated "Cal" (University of California Berkeley) many decades ago - and watched the Claremont with awe form down below in the student ghetto. This was a big milestone birthday trip with my family (and business trip), and my stay at the Claremont Hotel was all that I had dreamed about this lovely castle of a hotel.

We truly could not ask for a better or more complimentary review! Thank you for providing such detail about your stay at The Claremont Hotel Club & Spa and for sharing your celebratory time with us. We are thrilled to know you were able to appreciate so much of what our Spa and Club facilities have to offer. A spin session is a perfect way to work on your fitness and as you mentioned, we have a variety of different classes running throughout the day. We will share your kind comments with our associates. Our hotel certainly has a long and amazing history, with our beginnings as a private residence in the early days of the Gold Rush and it's great to know you appreciate our unique qualities as well as your dining experience at Paragon. We would love to welcome you back again for another stupendous stay!

This place is fine, if you like the location and price. The spa is great, but it is some distance from the hotel, and you have to walk outside to get there. I didn't like that. Other minor issues involved too few usable plugs in the room (at this late date!), an inadequate reading light at the bed, a thermostat that never in three days got the temperature to 72 degrees (although it wasn't uncomfortable), and a desk that needed to be bigger. The room itself was big enough so a bigger desk would have fit easily, and there was much unusable space in the boxy room. The hotel gets points for having an Ethernet cord, a very nice bathroom, and the spa. Good conference facilities. The view here is spectacular (if it isn't foggy). If you like old hotels, then this one will suit you. If you want modern, look elsewhere.

The Claremont Hotel Club & Spa is truly a historic gem and is filled with all of the classic touches one can expect from a property of its stature. We are truly delighted that you enjoyed some of the amenities in your guestroom as well as the spectacular view from our property. Our spa is a favorite destination for many of our guests. It is disappointing, however, if we missed the mark with regard to any other issues for you. We value your feedback and will share your suggestions with our management team. It would be our privilege to welcome you back again.

We recently stayed at the Claremont for our daughter's graduation from UC Berkeley. We stayed for a week and had 18 members of our family join us and stay there for graduation. We had an incredible experience and were so happy with the level of service our entire group received. We planned a graduation party at the Paragon (in their private dining room; the Panorama). Due to the attention of detail by Emily Altstadt (special events & catering department) and Adrian Larick (Director of Sales) , the dinner for 18 family members was a huge success. In addition to graduation it was Grandfathers 89th birthday and they remembered a candle in his dessert! The service at the hotel was great. From the front desk, to the bellman, to the housekeeper nothing was missed. We stayed in a signature suite and they thought to be sure our daughter and grandson who came from New York were in the room
adjoining. The cousins all enjoyed the pool area also. My daughter and I also enjoyed the lovely spa. Our rooms came with breakfast at the Meritage and they kindly seated our whole party (all 18!) together at 6:30 am for breakfast before graduation. The room we had was lovely with entertaining space and a view of the SF bay. We will NEVER forget this trip. Thank you!!!

Stayed here for my son's graduation from Berkeley, and was excited to stay somewhere unique. This hotel was very charming and made you feel like you were stepping back in time - this will sound weird, but it reminds me of what the Disney Tower of Terror hotel would be like if it were a real hotel! That's actually a complement - you feel like a movie star from the 20s going to a swanky hotel when you step through the doors.

The room we had was large and well-appointed. The bathroom had a skylight and was not your usual chain hotel bathroom, very fun. I loved the room and the view of the bridge and city skyline was stunning!

On the down side, the restaurant staff were either over-worked or just not loving their jobs. The hostess was friendly, but our server was just this shy of rude. The food was average, nothing to go out of the way for, it was all about the views and ambiance of the old architecture.
The front counter staff I interacted with didn't make me feel special, just another person checking in. When I asked a woman standing in front of the concierge sign at the desk about parking for graduation she blew me off like she had no idea. Seriously? You work at the nicest hotel next to the University and you have no idea about graduation parking? (They actually have an alumni office for the University onsite.) I'm guessing folks stay there every year and that this isn't really an unusual request. I was a bit miffed by her attitude. I know others have commented on the tiny, slow elevators, but honestly the authenticity of the original elevators made the hotel just that more fun.

All and all I enjoyed my stay and would recommend the hotel to others who might like a break from the usual chain rooms.

This place is lovely from the outside and the garden is nice. The view is astounding. But it desperately need an update. The coverlet is thin, the tile is cracked. The windows barely close and you can hear every sound in the hall. It smells like grandma's basement. In short it's more of a nostalgic experience than a modern resort hotel.
