“don't get stuck in the back...”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

Beautiful view with grand common areas...BUT make sure they don't give you a room in the rear facing the employee's parking lot. Our room was dark and outdated! The worse was the bathroom. I found bugs in the shower and tiles were cracked. We switched room but it was more the same.
We also didn't find the services to be great throughout our stay. Will not return, especially when there are many hotels in SF.

While we are grateful for your kind compliments of the public areas of our hotel and views, it is truly disappointing to learn that a guest has left feeling dissatisfied with their stay in anyway. All guest accommodations in our hotel are completely unique and we sincerely apologize if you were dissatisfied with your room or if you found anything amiss. We will be certain to share you feedback with everyone here to ensure that all is at its best for future stays. If there was anything we could have done differently, we would love to know. Thank you for sharing your comments.

I have had the wonderful opportunity to stay at this classic hotel a number of times. It contains all the elegance of the 20th century with the amenities of the 21st century. The staff works to make you comfortable and the spa if first class.

Arrived at the Claremont, checked in with Living Social Voucher that included a $50 dinner credit. They gave me an additional $50 credit for my birthday! Upgraded for $30 to a suite with a full view of the bay.
Spent an hour on the deck enjoying wine and oysters, watching the “city across the bay.” A fogless view.
Spent time at the spa, hot tub, and then back to dinner at 6:30 pm with 360 degree view.
Surrounded by servers and sommeliers, wine pairings and filet with sauces. Chocolate Soufflé dessert baked and volcanic, dripping with chocolate.
Missed a chance at a massage (one hour just for your foot!) and will have to return later for this.
Service exceeded our expectations. The suite was laid out perfect with the king size bed facing the fabulous view. The only thing that I would have liked in the tub were grab bars to extract myself out of the great big spa tub with wonderful jets. It was so deep, it was a challenge to get out.

Room Tip: Only $30 to upgrade to a suite with a full view of the Bay. Take it!

My wife and I returned to the Claremont after 42 years for a 3 day stay. The hotel is inits 100 year
anniversary. The public areas and rooms have all been refurbished. The results are stunning. The grand lobby is just that, grand! We had an Expedia rate of $167.00. We requested a handicapped bay view room which we got with no increase in the rate. The room was enormous.
The bath, likewise. We got to the Garden Room restaurant around 6PM with no reservations and were initially turned away by the greeter. As we were leaving the Ma'tre D asked if he could help.
Although the room was almost devoid of diners,he explained that all tables were reserved but he will find us space, which he did. From then on he "adopted" as spent much time with us suggesting small plates. Everything we ordered was marvelous.

Room Tip: rooms with a bay view are wonderful. Some rooms can be a long walk from the lobby but worth the effo...

We stayed here for a night for a wedding. The view of the Bay is fantastic! The staff was nice and efficient. The hotel is historic and I think that is why the bathrooms are not very big, but don't let that hold you back. The fitness club is excellent (weights, machines, cardio, two pools) and to make up for the exercise have the Sunday brunch, it is indeed scrumptious!

Room Tip: I recommend getting a room on the front side of the building so you have the views and make sure to...

Located high in the hills of Berkeley, The Claremont Hotel Club & Spa does indeed provide some of the most remarkable views of the bay! Thank you for sharing your spectacular review, from your account of your accommodations and The Club all the way to Sunday brunch, it seems as though you have enjoyed so much of what we have to offer, and for that we are truly grateful. Whether guests are seeking relaxation with our without children, we have much to offer everyone and would recommend our Kid’s Club, providing some amazing experiences for the younger set. It would be our pleasure to welcome you back again and we hope it’s soon!

Without a doubt, the best place to stay in Berkeley. The staff is just wonderful, the views are amazing and the property is spectacular. We stay here frequently, as our daughter attends Berkeley. I have had friends considering Berkeley for their kids, but are concerned about the area. I always tell them to stay at the Claremont and drive down Piedmont to get to Berkeley. I can't imagine a better place to go to school--and it all started with a visit at the Claremont. The area surrounding the Claremont is beautiful too. It's really an amazing hotel.

Room Tip: We love the third floor. Rumor has it that the 4th floor is haunted!---similar to the Del Coronado.

Aside from 4 star/luxury status the claremont hotel is an incredibly comfortable, relaxed and surprisingly down-to-earth sort of place. Of course it is exquisite with the beautiful complex built 100 or so years ago and for the most part each room is unique in its layout, bathroom styles. The elevators are the same ones that have been that have been running since the 1930's.
The staff is the core of this hotel with invariably each member I have encountered from the hospitality staff to the concierge to the retaurant wait-staff are incredibly, sincerely gracious. One doesn't need to have a spa treatment to enjoy the lovely spa store with a range of skin care products, organic makeup and even clothing. I highly rate this place.

Room Tip: you can't really go wrong regarding obtaining a view. some room of course look out onto a lush g...
